Every veteran MMO player uses at least one addon in their games known as a damage meter. It helps them keep track of the DPS they are doing and whether or not their rotations are efficient. It helps them modify their skill rotation to reach peak DPS.
You find out which attacks are dealing the most damage and try to use them more frequently. On the end game content, the only thing that matters is who is generating bigger numbers. Recount and Details are two damage meters being used by WoW players.
Recount vs Details WoW
Recount
It has been there for around 13 years which is why most of the veteran players like to use it. They have gotten so used to it that they do not want to switch. Recount has a fairly simple layout and does its job perfectly. It is lighter on your PC and easy to set up. Most players don’t even care about the design aspect as they feel like the only job of a damage meter should be to keep track of the damage dealt.
However, some players have been experiencing issues with the Recount damage meter. Which forced them to switch to details. Recount also does not offer as much customization. This might be because it has not received as many changes since it was first launched. Some players call it outdated. But most of the player base has gotten so used to it that they refuse to switch to details.
The Recount should work just fine for you if you don’t care about the fancy layout and only want to keep track of the damage you are doing to bosses. The major reason why so many people use it is that it came out earlier than any other damage meter for the game. So, the majority of the old players are more familiar with this damage meter as compared to Details.
Details
Most of the newer players who have tried details have fallen in love with the numerous features it provides. Players mention that details are in every way better than Recount and everyone should switch ASAP. It allows you to have multiple tabs of DPS and HPS be opened without any issue. The number of features is way more as compared to Recount.
People also loved the fancy design and mentioned that they have experienced no issues since they switched from Recount. Keeping all this positive feedback from the player base it is highly recommended that you try Details for yourself once, and decide whether or not you should switch.
Details can tell you how much damage each skill is doing and what skills are contributing the most to your overall DPS. The user interface is also much easier to deal with. People who refuse to switch say that a damage meter does not need to look good, its only job is to calculate the DPS which Recount does just fine.
But if you’re not one of those people and want a fancy-looking damage meter in your game then we would highly recommend that you go for Details.
