4 Ways To Fix Discord Changing Avatar Too Fast

Discord has become massively popular in the last few years. We would suppose this is because it is so useful to the gaming community.

It allows people to keep track of each other’s progress and live chat while gaming.  Plus, it also packs in a whole load of other features that other platforms don’t offer.

For example, you can add in a whole range of bots to make your groups more fun, accessible, and entertaining. It’s all really useful stuff.

However, not everything with Discord works flawlessly at all times. Though reliability is one of the strengths that it boasts, there can be occasional glitches and bugs that are just baffling.

With Discord, one of the many things you can do is change your avatar as you see fit. To keep it easy, most people choose one from the vast array that they offer.

Instead, there are more than a few of us who choose to crop our own images and use that instead for a bit of originality.

However, if you are in the habit of doing this in any way frequently, we are sure that you will have noticed that issues can crop up.

Technically, you are allowed to change avatars as often as you like, without limitations.

But, if you happen to run through a few in quick succession, you can end up getting a warning that says, “you are changing avatars too fast.”

They will tell you to try again later. So, it would appear that there are some limitations to changing avatars.

Seeing as there are a few of you out there having trouble with this, we thought we would put together this little guide to help you get to the bottom of it.

Why does this error occur?

Perhaps the most maddening thing about this message is that, on the one hand, they tell you that you can change your avatar as often as you want.

But, apparently, changing them too quick is a bit of a problem. Well, we have figured out why.

As it turns out, the whole thing is that every time you change avatar, it also needs to update on the devices of all of your friends and on every server you have joined or set up.

So, if you change them over too quickly, it can end up overwhelming the server. It simply can’t process all that much change in such a short period.

As a result of all of this, you end up getting the message telling you to wait almost as a self-defense mechanism.

So, this leaves you with a choice of four options which we will now get into.

1. Wait it out

To put an exact time frame on what you can and can’t do, you will need to make a maximum of 3 changes in the course of a minute.

Now, when you think about it, that is actually a relatively reasonable request.

In fact, we would bet that, unless you are making tiny changes to your cropping, you would actually struggle to beat that deadline.

But, if you have already done this, it can confuse the system, causing you to need to wait a while longer. The best bet is to wait it out.

If you let your profile sit for 5 minutes, you should notice that the issue resolves itself.

After this time has passed, you will then be able to make any changes that you want to make again.

You won’t get the message again unless you somehow manage to attempt more than 3 changes in the course of a single minute.

2. Plan Out What You are Going to Do Before Saving the Avatar

On Discord, all photos are shown in circular form. Naturally, very few pictures are like that.

So, nearly every picture out there will need at least a little bit of editing before they are ready to go.

This can make it pretty easy to make a mistake as you make your changes.

So, to avoid seeing the error message again, we have one suggestion.

To sidestep the problem entirely, we would recommend that you plan out exactly what you are doing with the avatar before you try to upload it.

So, make your changes as you see fit, but only hit the save button when you are sure that you are happy with what you’ve got.

That way, you are more likely to get it right and not have to make a series of small adjustments that will trigger the warning.

3. Try Restarting whatever Device you are using

On rare occasions, this error message will trigger even if you are staying within the given time rule.

As we mentioned earlier, there are some bugs and glitches that pop up every now and then on Discord. This can be one of them, from time to time.

So, if you have been waiting any longer than 5 minutes for everything to return to normal, this is more than likely why.

So, to combat this, the easiest fix is to restart whatever device you are using Discord on.

After you do so, you should notice that you can change your avatar again when and how you see fit.

If this doesn’t work for you, it is not time to worry just yet. We may need to up the ante to clear the bugs out.

4. Delete and Reinstall the App

For those of you who have made it this far, you can consider yourselves a little unfortunate.

Really, at this point, we need to consider the possibility that there may be something wrong with the version of the App that you have.

Though it is possible to make minor changes, this is quite time-consuming compared to what we would do in this case.

To us, it seems much more efficient to delete the App and reinstall it.
