Roblox is a huge platform where players can create and play all kinds of games. Not only is it a place where kids can get to enjoy games, but where developers can also make unique games. Roblox has millions of active users worldwide.

Although it’s been more than a decade since Roblox officially came out, it is still growing in popularity up to this day. As a matter of fact, it didn’t receive much attention during release. However, in the passing years, it became quite popular and now has a user count of around 164 million users.

Why Did Roblox Remove Genres?

Recently, Roblox has removed the feature of being able to search games through genres. This means that players can’t really look for a genre-specific game using the search feature. This has infuriated a lot of players as they don’t really see the point of this feature being removed from the platform.

It may not be what you are expecting, but there’s a reason to why the company had to make such a rash decision. Today, we will be using this article to explain in detail what is really the cause for removing genres in Roblox.

The Reason Behind Removing Genres in Roblox

Although there are many theories behind the real reason why Roblox removed genres, it is without a doubt that one of them was to attract newer players. Actually, their aim was to improve the front page of Roblox, in order to attract newer players.

Doing this allowed the platform to have their highlighted games showcased on the front page of Roblox. Also, there were quite a lot of fake genre games listed there. There really wasn’t much that could be done on that, except for recreating the whole filter option.

The problem is that players were mostly bummed out because they could have removed genres after they had made the new system. This is one of the main reasons why players were outraged. Some of them went even as far as calling it nothing but a cash grab.

However, if we do look at it, we can clearly see there was definitely a reasonable explanation behind removing the genre option in the platform. On the bright side, you will no longer have to see a fake genre game on the front page of Roblox. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to make a genre-specific search on the platform anymore.

The Bottom Line

In this article, we have explained everything you need to know about why did Roblox remove genres. It is definitely something that has made many players angry.

Do tell us what you think about this step taken by Roblox in the comment section below. Do you think it was something that had to be done? Or are you one of the many players bummed out about it?

  1. I didn’t even noticed they removed it. Seems like a small update, better explain why they did change the position of the avatars to front facing.

  2. Still doesn’t make sense as to why they’d remove genre search and replace it with like 7 different popular games filter. Seriously we got:

    -Popular Among Premium
    -Featured, Top Rated
    -Popular
    -Most Engaging
    -People Love
    -Popular Worldwide
    -Up-and-Coming

What is the point of that? Then, on top of that, the only genre search system shows like 35 games maximum, most of which are already on the other popular filters and there are about 7 or so genres to choose from, all of which I am personally uninterested in.

The only new system which allowed us to find new games that were interesting depending on what we played, Recommended For You, has basically been turned into an 8th popular sort for no reason at all.

Adopt Me is the front page game on my Recommended, tell me how in the name of god Adopt Me is related to Oil Warfare Tycoon.

Regardless of what you believe, removing genre search and replacing it with this new, crappy, lame excuse of a game page is just annoying.
