The Astro A50 series is one of the most advanced ones available from Astro. It has a variety of different powerful headsets that are all great in their own way. Like most gaming headsets, these are equipped with built-in microphones which allow you to communicate with your teammates in online games while also allowing players to try out voice commands. The best part is that it’s also compatible with the Xbox One.
The reason why this is such a good thing, in particular, is because not a lot of third-party headsets + microphones tend to work properly with consoles. But this isn’t a problem with the Astro A50 or its mic, as both of them work well. At least, this is the case most of the time.
There can be occasional problems with the headset and the microphone specifically. This includes the mic not working at all at times. If the Astro A50 mic is not working on Xbox One for you either, here are some solutions to try.
Astro A50 Mic Not Working on Xbox One
- Unplug from Base
The first solution to try is the simplest one here, which is to just unplug the cord of the Astro A50 from the base. But there is a specific way this needs to be done for the mic to start working again. Firstly, players need to assign a party with the players that they intend to talk to and/or run the game that they plan to play.
Now unplug the device from the base and wait only a few seconds before plugging it back in again. Your Xbox One should now be recognizing the Astro A50 without any issues and the mic should work too because of this.
- Switch to Xbox
Another thing to watch out for are the two different modes that are available on the base station. The Astro A50 headset was made for PC and Xbox gamers alike, and there are two different settings that can be chosen depending on which of the two platforms that users have.
Since you’re using the headphones on an Xbox One, make sure that the base station is toggled to Xbox. Simply keep the headset plugged in while using them with the headset and just switch it to Xbox. Even if it’s already got the correct setting assigned, switch it to PC and then back to Xbox, as that can help the console recognize the headset at times too.
- Sync Headphones with Base
One more thing that can be done is trying to sync the Astro A50 headset with the base station that you have for it so that the device and its built-in microphone start working properly. Doing so is pretty easy.
Just hold down the red power buttons on both until they start turning white. Once they are fully white, the syncing process will be complete. Plug the headset into the Xbox again and then try to see if the mic is working this time around.
- Manually Assign Headphones
You could force the Xbox One to recognize your Astro A50 headset and sure that both the audio output as well as input through the microphone work perfectly. To do so, head on over to the settings of the console and try to locate an option named “Kinect and Devices”. Choose this option and then try to locate the settings for the headset from within the new menu that’ll appear on the screen.
Once you find the headset settings, click on the option and then assign the Astro A50 to a second account. Now log out of this second account and the device will automatically be assigned to the first account. The microphone should be working without any problems after this.
- Firmware Update
The last solution if all of the other solutions fail is to just update the firmware of your Astro A50, as that’s probably the reason behind this problem. To do so, just connect them to a Windows or Mac computer and then download the latest Firmware update for the specific A50 model you own through the official Astro site.
