• Warriors should invest in Combat Training early to wear heavier armor and wield better weapons.
• Rogues benefit most from maxing Combat Tactics (adds tactics slots) and Poison-Making for consistent DPS.
• Mages should prioritize Arcane Training to unlock tier 3–4 spells, and at least 1 rank of Combat Tactics.
• Coercion is universally useful — investing 2–4 points opens many dialogue & quest options for all classes.
To build a character in Dragon Age: Origins, players must decide how to allocate the characters talent points. Characters earns a talent point when they reach a level. These talent points will determine how well the Warden perform in the games battles.
The player must make a decision as to which abilities the Warden will allocate his talent points to. The allocation of these points will determine whether the players Warden survives the battle or not. Additionally, the various abilities the player chooses for the Warden isnt meant to work in isolation of one another; the effectiveness of a characters abilities depend upon how the different abilities in the Wardens character work good together.
How to Use the Talent Point Calculator
The player can allocate the talent points to many different trees of ability at the outset of the game. However, allocating the talent points to many different trees of abilities will result in the Warden being unable to adequately master many of the skills required in the games battles. The skill calculator provides the player with information regarding the mathematics of the Wardens talent points.
Through the calculator, the player can determine how many talent point the Warden has earned after accounting for specializations and skills. Additionally, the player must make a decision as to which tree of abilities will receive the most talent points before level seven is reached, when the player will be able to purchase the first specialization. The specializations will change the way the character function within the game.
The character will earn one specialization without spending a talent point. However, committing talent points to a specialization will cost the player some of his talent points. For example, if the Warden is a warrior but doesnt invest enough talent points into the Two-Handed tree of abilities before purchasing the Berserker specialization, the Warden will find it difficultly to use the rage-based abilities offered to the player.
Additionally, a mage who selects the Spirit Healer specialization before purchasing skills into the Creation tree may find that the chosen specialization dont help to keep the Wardens party alive during the game. Whereas talents are used in battles, skills are used outside of the combat portion of the game. Using the skill calculator, players can allocate talent points to each of the games skill and the cunning attribute of the Warden.
This calculator allows players to view the tradeoff between talents and skills. Every point spent into a skill like Coercion or Survival is a talent point not spent into a skill that enhance the Wardens survivability in combat. Most characters have only two or three skill rank allocated to their attributes; however, having the proper rank will ensure that the Warden does not stall in any quest line.
The reference tables detail the different abilities in each tree of abilities. These tables can help players understand which abilities are only available at certain ranks within the trees of abilities. For example, a rogue who does not reach the third rank in the Archery skill will miss gaining the skill to fire the “shattering” shot.
Similarly, a warrior who does not reach the higher rank of the Two-Handed skill will miss the Indomitable ability. The knowledge of the final abilities in each tree will help the player to decide how many talent points to allocate to each tree of abilities. Additionally, the classes can impact the impact of mistakes in the allocation of talent points.
For instance, because the trees for warriors are straightforward, warriors have limited option; however, the warrior class must choose between different weapon style. Mages have more decision to make for their class because different spell school offer different playing style in the game, and changing spell school will cost the player talent points that the player already allocated to the former spell school. Rogues must allocate points to dexterity for damage and choose between stealth skill and other abilities.
A character can earn a total of twenty-four talent points by level twenty-five of the game. These points will purchase the Wardens two specializations, all the talents selected for the Warden, and the Wardens skill. The limited nature of the talent point pool means that a Warden who chooses to devote his talent points to mastering every skill in the game will end up being more mediocre in each skill.
The characters who are the most powerful in the game will be the ones who have focused on two or three skill or talents and did not change the allocation of those talent points. The talent point calculator shows the player whether or not the build of the Warden will fit within the twenty-four point limit, and it allows the player and the developer to see if either player or the game is overspending the Wardens limited talent points. You should of used a calculator to make sure.
