Destiny 2 is an excellent game, but it has its share of issues. One such issue that plagues many players involves their characters not leveling up as expected, which can be particularly frustrating if you’re actively playing Destiny 2 at the time this happens! Fortunately, there are a few different ways to fix your character from not leveling up in Destiny 2, and we’ll show you all of them here. Let’s dive right in!
How to Fix Destiny 2 Not Leveling Up?
- Try Upgrading Your Weapons
If you’ve recently picked up a brand-new weapon, but your character isn’t upgrading to the appropriate level because you’re already at the cap, here are some tips for upgrading. The easiest way is by using your Silver/Rare/Legendary weapon to purchase Ascendant Shards and Radiant Dust from an Eververse Trading Company vendor. The process will cost anywhere between 1,000-3,000 Bright Dust per item. When that vendor doesn’t have what you need, use Masterwork Cores instead (available through weapons vendors) or dismantle other weapons into materials needed for ascension.
- Why You’re Not Getting XP From Activities
When you don’t get XP from an activity, it means that you have outpaced the content you’re playing. In order to maximize your XP gains, make sure that your level is high enough for the activity in question. For example, if you are Level 25 and a Strike has a recommended level of 22, the Strike will not give you XP when completed. However, if Level 27 and the recommended level is 23, finishing that Strike would give out at least some XP points.
- Playing with Friends
Since Destiny 2 is all about playing with your friends, you want to make sure that you’re all on the same page as far back as character creation. Group up before hitting play and agree on things like which play style (player-vs-environment or player-vs-player) and character class you’ll use. It doesn’t matter if you end up swapping a few times during the game; just make sure everyone is happy when you start.
- Unlocking New Subclasses
There are currently three subclasses that unlock at the end of the game: Sunbreaker, Nightstalker, and Stormcaller. Once you reach level 20 with a Warlock class, you can purchase these subclasses with ability points (AP). There is no longer a need to do an exotic quest like in Destiny 1.
- Keeping an Eye on XP Progress Bars
If your experience point bars aren’t filling up like they should, there are a few things you can try. First, see if you’re playing on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 version of Destiny 2. You may be at a higher character level than the max for that version, which could mean XP isn’t being rewarded properly. Second, disconnecting and reconnecting may help temporarily.
- Ditching Duplicates of Rare Items
Now, here is the important part: Ditch all of your rare items! This may seem counterintuitive, but hear me out. The only way you are going to get any more legendary or exotic items from dismantling items is if you dismantle a duplicate. For instance, if I have three different legendaries and one of them is a duplicate, I will dismantle all three of them in order to try and get another random legendary that isn’t a duplicate.
