Competitive battles is different from raids in that raids and battles has different statistical priority. During raids, a player want to focus on maximizing the attack of they Pokémon because this will allow them to defeat the raid’s boss Pokémon as quick as possible. In player versus player battles, however, the player has to focus on survive as long as possible in the battle because they must stay in the battle to use their Pokémon’s move.
Bulk is a measurement of how many damage a Pokémon can take. Bulk is represented by the bulk stat which is defense stats multiplied by the stamina stat. Additionally, some players calculates a stat product which is the product of the attack, defense, and stamina stat of a Pokémon which can help people to determine the effectiveness of their Pokémon in battle.
Choosing IVs for Raids and PvP
Low attack IVs can be beneficial to some Pokémon when competing in league like the Great League and the Ultra League because low attack IVs allow Pokémon to have high defense or stamina stats while still not reaching the Combat Power limit of their Pokémon. For example, an Azumarill with low attack IVs but high defense and stamina IVs will last longer in the Great League than an Azumarill with perfect IVs. This is because the Azumarill with perfect IVs may reach the CP limit so quickly that it will be eliminated from the battle much sooner than the Azumarill with low attack IVs.
Thus, the Pokémon with low attack IVs will be able to use more moves during it battle. The level of the Pokémon and the type of Pokémon that is being battled will change how IVs should be chosen for a Pokémon. Pokémon that are Shadows has a 20% increase in their attack stat but only 83% of their defense stat as compared to normal Pokémon.
Because of this, Shadow Pokémon has less bulk with their defenses. Weather element increase the damage that a Pokémon will do in battle but do not increase the CP of the Pokémon. Additionally, the Best Buddy feature for Pokémon increases the level of a Pokémon and changes its eligibility for certain Pokémon leagues due to the increased CP of its Pokémon.
The specific role of each Pokémon will change the IVs that are chosen for that Pokémon. Some Pokémon are created to use fast move often while other use powerful but slow to charge moves. For those who would like to battle as a tank their Pokémon will focus on defense and stamina stats.
For those who would like to battle as an attacker for the enemy players will focus on their attack stat. However, focusing on the attack stat for a Pokémon will reduce its bulk which will make it easy for that Pokémon to be defeated in battle. A player should not base the value of their Pokémon on the stats that their Pokémon have when it is initially caught.
Instead, they should power up their Pokémon to their target Combat Power to view their trainer level to make sure that their Pokémon can be powered up to its potential. The maximum level of a Pokémon is the trainer level plus 10 but no higher than 51 for any given Pokémon. Additionally, a player should not rely on ranking website for their Pokémon.
Ranking websites will assume that the player has a Pokémon with optimal IVs. Some mistakes that people can make with their Pokémon include focusing on perfect IVs for their Pokémon. This waste the resources that a player gain in leagues with a CP cap.
Additionally, leveling up their Pokémon past their trainer cap wastes stardust. Finally, players must remember that bulk is one of the most important characteristic for a Pokémon to be competitive against others in battle.
