War Thunder might not be that demanding when it comes to system resources, but you’ll still need a decent system to avoid freezing issues. Most users like to bump up all the video settings to max and then get worried when they are not getting optimal frames in their game. So, if you’re in the same shoes with War Thunder freezing at random, you might have to check the game configurations.
Almost all the complaints with War Thunder freezing at random are related to game video configuration. So, it might be a good idea to go through some of these fixes to get everything in order.
Fixing War Thunder Random Freezing
- Turn Down Graphics Settings
Turning down the graphics settings is the most basic fix to this issue, and you need to make sure that all the video and texture effects are set to low. You can still keep the anti-aliasing features at mid, but other than that, the graphics settings should be at a minimum. That should be enough to help you with the random freezes in War Thunder.
- Try Changing Resolution
Sometimes, players have had to switch to a lower resolution, and if you’re playing at a 2K monitor, there is no harm in switching to 1080p. The pixels will look a bit weird at first, but you will get used to this new resolution in due time. So, turn down the resolution and then check the response from your entertainment unit.
- Switch To Windowed Mode
At this point, you should also try switching to windowed mode and exit out of the full screen. This will help you better deal with the resolution difference, and the game will shrink down instead of expanding the presentation over extra pixels. So, after switching to a 1080p resolution, make sure that you’re working with windowed mode. That should be enough to get rid of the random freezing problems in War Thunder.
- Check Your Graphics Drivers
There is no harm in rechecking the graphics drivers. If you’ve not updated the drivers in a while, now might be a good idea to use DDU and turn down the graphics settings. It will take a bit of your time to get the new drivers, but hopefully, you won’t have to deal with the same problems in War Thunder.
- Remove Background Applications
The presence of too many overlays and background applications can also impact the performance of your system. Even if your system is powerful, you won’t be able to get any performance out of the device when there are too many applications running in the background. So, you need to remove these applications and then try playing War Thunder one more time.
- Check For Corrupted Files
You might just be dealing with corrupted game files, and you will have to restart the game again when War Thunder is freezing at random. The only fix for this situation is to reinstall the game, and you’re not left with many options when the game is indeed corrupted.
