In World of Warcraft’s Burning Crusade, tanking require a person to have a good understanding of the various statistic that ensure that the tank can survive the attack that the boss may direct at the tank. The statistics that tanks use include defense rating, resilience, avoidance percentages, and other statistics that ensure that a tank can survive the games challenge. If a tank dont have enough of these statistics, the boss can land a heavy blow that will kill the tank.
Defense skill work because each point of defense rating will reduce the chance of an enemy landing a critical hit on the player. Defense and resilience can be entered into a calculator, which will provide a player with an understanding of how these two statistic work together to reduce the chance of a critical hit. Additionally, the level difference between a player and a boss is another factor that a player that calculates there defense rating and resilience statistics must consider.
How to Use the Tank Calculator
Resilience reduce the chance of landing a critical hit, however it does not add to a players dodge, parry, or block statistics. Therefore, a tank must decide whether resilience is a better statistic to increase for a tank than defense rating. A player can utilize the calculator to adjust the resilience statistic to view how the remaining chance of landing a critical hit will change, which can allow a player to decide whether they alredy have enough defense rating or whether they require more resilience.
Avoidance include dodge, parry, and block statistics, and each class have a different avoidance skill. Warriors and paladins can utilize block to increase there avoidance statistics, for example, but a druid in bear form cant use block or parry statistics. Each player must use the tank type selector to adjust the game for its specific tank type.
Additionally, players can add an active block bonus statistic within the calculator to determine how many additional coverage statistic that their cooldown will provide. Crushing blows will occur for a tank if the tank does not have enough avoidance statistics. If a persons avoidance is at 102.4%, the game will not allow for crushing blows to occur.
A player can use the calculator to determine the margin in which the player is avoiding crushing blows. Additionally, most tanks will find that they only need a few more points of avoidance to reach the crush cap. This information will help a player to decide on the gear that they need to obtain to even more increase there avoidance statistics.
A tank can prioritize some statistics over others. Tanks will typically reach critical hit immunity before they reach the crush cap due to the fact that both defense and resilience will reduce the chance of landing a critical hit. Block coverage, however, is different in that it is dependent upon the uptime of a cooldown.
Players can use the calculator to determine whether it is better to reduce the chance of landing a critical hit or to increase block coverage. Many players tend to make mistakes with the statistics. Many people do not understand that resilience is not the same as defense statistics, for instance, because resilience does not help in the crush table.
Additionally, some players may believe that there defense rating is wasted once they reach critical hit immunity, but in fact, their defense rating will increase there dodge and parry statistics. Finally, many tanks may tend to forget about the level difference between themself and the boss. The calculator will remove the math from the players mind such that they can focus on the numbers.
The calculator, however, will not eliminate the need for a player to use judgment in the game. If the calculator displays to a player that their avoidance statistics are short of the number required to avoid crushing blows, a player will know that they need to increase there avoidance statistics. If the calculator displays to a tank that they still have a chance of landing a critical hit, they will know that they need to increase there defense statistics.
Overall, the goal of every tank is to ensure the attack table is weighted in the tanks favor, and the numbers within the calculator will allow a player to understand whether or not the attack table is currently working in the tanks favor or if they need to increase some of their statistic.
