SteelSeries is best known for the many different headphones that they offer, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only area in which they excel. The brand also provides other gaming peripherals too, and an excellent example of this would be their great keyboards.
Some of these also include RGB lighting which is usually highly customizable thanks to accessibility settings. But if your Steelseries Keyboard is not lighting up, all these different settings and color combinations are obviously of no use. That said, we’re here to provide all the solutions you need, so continue reading below to learn more about each one.
How to Fix SteelSeries Keyboard Not Lighting Up?
- Keyboard Shortcuts
Just like any other RGB keyboard out there, or at least a majority of the ones that are available, all Steelseries keyboards come with built-in shortcut commands that allow users to change their lighting. That’s because there are different patterns for the lights, and switching through them all is much easier to do with keys rather than having to open up the Steelseries app each time.
That said, it’s more than likely you could’ve accidentally shut off the lights on the keyboard by clicking on one of these shortcuts, or by turning the brightness all the way down. To test the theory out, simply press the Function key and the Page Up key on your Steelseries keyboard together a few times to check if it lights up or not.
- Perform a Factory Reset
An alternative solution which usually works all the time whenever there are lighting issues is one that requires users to perform a complete factory reset on their Steelseries keyboard.
This isn’t as bad as it sounds, as all your macros will still be saved in the Steelseries application along with all the different presets you might have. In fact, no important data will be lost at all, meaning that factory resetting will only be doing you good rather than presenting any new problems.
To perform this reset, you’ll likely have to check online for the specific steps required for the specific Steelseries keyboard model you own. That’s because the process is different depending on the device.
For example, for the Apex series, the steps require you to unplug the device first and then hold the multimedia as well as the scroll buttons on the keyboard. After this is done, users have to plug the keyboard back in while holding the previously mentioned keys in throughout the entire process until the keyboard starts flashing.
- Force Drivers Reinstall
If the previous two solutions don’t work, there’s the more extreme but definite way of fixing this issue with the Steelseries keyboard by forcing a driver to reinstall. Just go to the device manager and uninstall everything related to the Steelseries keyboard you’re using, while also removing it as a device.
Now unplug it, turn off the computer, and then plug it back in. Once this is done, restart the device and the drivers will be reinstalled, making the lights turn back on without any issues.
