Creating a Rogue Trader character require more than selecting high value for each of the statistics for the character. The character must be able to function within a group of companions. The character needs a background that provide a connection to the story that is to be created, and the character needs to have the proper skill to complement those playing companions.

The planner that is provided on this page will help the Rogue Trader character to be build in a way that meets each of these requirements, rather than relying upon the intuitions of the character creator. The choices that is made for the Rogue Trader character’s homeworld will affect the statistics for the character. Beyond providing a description for the character of that homeworld, each of the homeworld choices also provide benefit for the character.

Build a Balanced Rogue Trader with the Planner

For instance, if the Rogue Trader was a survivor of a Death World, they would have values for toughness and aggression; they learned to fight for survival on those worlds. Similarly, a Voidborn would have social navigation and thinking skill; they learned how to navigate social environments in order to survive in there home systems. These benefits become even more important when an origin and background is added to the character.

For instance, a Commissar background will provide the character with high levels of resolve and leadership, while a Noble origin will provide different benefits to the Rogue Trader that still lead to position of leadership within their groups. The planner helps to ensure that the homeworld and origin for the Rogue Trader are not conflicting with one another. Additionally, the characteristics for the Rogue Trader will begin to conflict with one another.

For instance, if the Rogue Trader has high values of Fellowship, they will have less characteristics available for other stats like Weapon Skill or Ballistic Skill. Character attributes impact other attributes, and the planner will help to ensure that the Rogue Traders characteristics are chosen with an understanding of how they will impact the Rogue Trader within the company of other adventurers. The Rogue Trader will need to answer the question of whether their character covers any gaps in the other adventurers skill, or if they simply provide the same skills as some of the others in the group.

The style of weapons that the Rogue Trader will use will conflict with their armor posture. For instance, a duelist that relies on high level of Weapon Skill and Agility will have light and medium armor to allow them to move quick during combat. In contrast, a heavy melee combatant will have high levels of toughness and be able to wear heavier armor to take the damage that come from their attacks.

Each of these choices will affect the Rogue Trader within the group, and the planner will help coordinate these choices to make sure that the Rogue Trader doesnt fight against itself during their adventures. Another of the most important choices for the Rogue Trader is the talent that the Rogue Trader will learn. Some talents require specific characteristics of the Rogue Trader.

For instance, critical hits require the character to have high values of Perception skills, while a psyker will require the character to have high values of Willpower characteristics. The planner ensures that the character’s chosen talents are compatible with the characteristics of the Rogue Trader. Additionally, the Rogue Trader will have a resolve plan that allow them to perform heroic acts within their adventures.

These heroic acts are only beneficial if they can reach those acts; the plan will succeed with other officer that exhibit the same characteristics, but will fail if the Rogue Trader has to struggle to create the opportunities for those heroes. While the planner can provide the Rogue Trader with a good understanding of the different aspect of Rogue Trader character creation, the planner cannot account for every possible aspect of the character. For instance, while the reference tables will provide an understanding of the general skills and statistics of each of the homeworlds, origins, and weapon styles, the tables are not final answer to what skills the Rogue Trader will need.

The tables are created to provide context for the development of the Rogue Trader that will take place within the game. The best Rogue Trader characters are those that every component of the character contribute to the same aspects of the character. For instance, if the Rogue Trader is created with a homeworld, origin, archetype, weapon, and party role that all contribute to the same characteristics, they wont fight against themselves.

The planner ensures that each of these component of the Rogue Trader character are balanced and work together to contribute to the same components of the character. You should of used the planner to make sure the character is builded corectly. It is alot easier then doing it by hand.

It makes the character feel more naturaly moddern.
