If you’ve ever played Phasmophobia, you’ll know that it can be very difficult, especially if you don’t have the right tools.
Thankfully, the game’s interface offers many different ways to interact with your character and help him navigate through the maze to find the exit and beat the level.
However, some players have reported that their mouse cursor gets stuck in the middle of the screen, preventing them from playing properly.

- Adjust Shadow Detail Settings
In Phasmophobia Go to Menues. Once you’re in, go to Settings, then find Shadow Detail (should be right under Display Settings). Set Shadow Detail all the way down.
If that doesn’t do it, try setting shadow detail all the way up. This is a temporary fix while they work on a more permanent solution.
- Completely Uninstall, Then Reinstall the Game
Sometimes, new updates break old games. If you’ve recently updated your video or audio drivers and still facing this issue, you might need to uninstall and reinstall it before it works again.
Before doing so, make sure that you create a backup copy of any saved data or progress that you don’t want to lose.
- Uninstall Then Reinstall Video Drivers
Uninstall then reinstall video drivers. This can often solve issues that cause your mouse and other hardware devices to malfunction.
To begin uninstalling, search for Device Manager or Devices and Printers on your computer, then open it and look through every tab until you find a list of all hardware devices attached to it.
Look for any entry with an exclamation point beside it, which indicates there’s a problem with that device.
Right-click on each one with an exclamation point beside it and choose Uninstall from the drop-down menu.
Reboot your computer once you’ve uninstalled everything listed with an exclamation mark beside them.
- Reinstall Mouse Drivers
Your computer’s mouse drivers may have been corrupted, preventing you from controlling it. If you’re using a wireless gaming mouse (i.e., not just plugged into USB), try plugging in a wired one and see if it works properly.
You might also want to uninstall and reinstall all mouse drivers from Device Manager; typically, you can access these through Control Panel -> System and Security -> Device Manager. While there, make sure any problematic devices are enabled and functioning correctly.
- Launch The Game In Windowed Mode
If phasmophobia is set to run full-screen, start it up in Windowed mode. This will prevent it from taking over your entire monitor and locking you out.
In Windows, you can hit Alt+Enter (or, on some keyboards, Function+Enter) to toggle between Windowed and Full-Screen modes.
You’ll be able to get control of your system again as soon as you exit phasmophobia via its Exit menu option or Alt+F4. To fix any issues with text not appearing correctly, try running phasmophobia at a higher resolution.
