In Minecraft, building a beacon pyramid are a rite of passage. Dig down. Place your nether star. See that beam blast right up through the roof. Satisfying.
Here’s the thing: Before you ever place first block, you do all the heavy lifting. You don’t want to be halfway up something only to realize you ran out of iron. Ouch. That sucks.
Why You Need This Beacon Calculator
The calculator above will help you avoid that trap, because it do the math for you, transforming an abstract goal into a concrete inventory list. Where does it begin? You choose your goal: decent coverage from a single beacon? Do you want maxed out level two haste and full regeneration? You’ll need a four-tier pyramid for that, which mean a base layer that’s nine by nine. Sounds modest, right? But nope. Every layer get a ring of extra blocks around it. Soon enough, the number of blocks you’re working with skyrockets. One hundred and sixty-four in all, just for a single maxed out beacon. That translates into almost two-dozen stack of stuff. If you don’t take this size into consideration up front, you’ll find yourself spending hours mining rather then playing.
Instead of beginning from zero, the tool allows you to plan how to upgrade what you have already built. Enter where you’re at in terms of building a tier two base. Then it will spit out how many blocks away you still are from finishing. Why does this matter? Most people builds their farms incrementally. Maybe they get a basic speed boost by their entrance, and as time goes on they layer stuff on top of that once they acquire more diamonds. By knowing the distance between what you want vs. What you have, you can make sure it’s achievable.
But what about when we have shared bases? That’s another ballgame. When you put beacons right next to one another, they’ll have overlapping pyramids. There’s a switch in the calculator for this. Turn it on, and suddenly all those base levels below them gets shared between adjacent structures. The block count reduce dramatically. Placing two side-by-side beacon is less costly than building two standalone pyramids. And that makes a difference if you’re cramming as many effects as possible onto a single, tiny base while staying within your inventory limits.
It’s flexible The beacon doesn’t care about materials. Emeralds? Diamond? Gold? Iron? Netherite? They’re all equal. You can mix and match whatever is available/cheap in your world. Need more iron than anything else? Use that! For planning out a build, you can specify a primary material, but no matter what block it is, the math stay the same. And, because it calculates amount of glass/obsidian required to make the actual beacons, you’ll have enough of everything to create a full build.
The other thing that catches people off guard are beacons and their range. They has a 50 block horizontal range with a four tier beacon. So they effectively create a square one hundred and one by one hundred and one block area. And it’s bigger than you think. So make sure you put your beacon right in the center to get the maximum out of it. Otherwise you are wasting half the effect. You can see coverage area on your tool so you know what to visualize placing relative to your mining tunnel or base.
Players experiment with trying to create huge areas of beacons across an entire world. That’s a cool concept and all, but it becomes very costly. Even if you’re sharing resources between multiple bases, the cost adds up quickly. This allows you to input high numbers into the calculator. And when it spits out how many stacks of things you require, that often stops them from building too much. It helps keep expectations in check.
But in the end, this is time-saving. Who wants to stop their game just to scrounge around looking for missing pieces? Knowing how many of what to grab makes the game more enjoyable. The numbers allow you to organize whatever size combat arena/large scale mining hub, etc that you have planned. And without having to worry about the blocks underneath the beacon, you could of sat there and enjoy its glow.
