Note: This article ties opinions from the community with alfa-review about the talent-system in World of Warcraft: Midnight.
World of Warcraft: Midnight raises the maximum level to 90 what gives 10 new spots for talent, that one can spend. It marks big change compared to The War Inside, where those spots went only for Heroic Talents. Now the spots spread through class trees, spec trees and heroic trees instead.
New Talent System in Midnight
Three from those spots go specifically in the class tree. Later, between 80 and 90, one unlocks three additional Heroic Talents. That is enough to complete the heroic tree without some gaps.
Calculators for talent trees already include the content of Midnight. Those programs allow to plan builds for characters, set loadouts and share them easily. To choose class and build tree is easy, and export it to show to friends or guildmates happens in seconds.
The updated calculator stores all alfa-talent trees from Midnight.
Every class receives changes in Midnight, and some specs really get reworked. There are a lot of reorders through the whole system. The frost-mage receives help through new mechanics for blockade, that seems yet a bit uclear in that phase.
More moves will arrive before the launch. Talent trees themselves are the trees of skills, that one starts to fill with spots around level 10. Each class spec has its own set, for instance Beastmaster, Markmanship and Survival for hunters.
The main feature is the new system of Apex Talents. They find themselves in the most bottom part of the spec-tree and unlock when one reaches level 81, what gives strong push to face the harder challenges. Apex Talents mean to push the specs more forward and shape the ideal of how the class should feel.
But the problem is, that they feel more like a checklist than real choices. Each Apex Talent seems like this basic for the function of the spec, that skipping won feels like a real choice.
That steps back from what The War Inside did with Heroic Talents. Heroic Talents really changed how one can play certain specs, and offered two clearly separate playstyles inside one spec. They made the experiment rewarding and gave to specs entirely new identities.
Apex Talents rather come more strictly structured.
Midnight adds also brand new specs for Demon-hunters in the collection, called Devourer. The Apex Talent of the Devourer calls Midnight, excellent little reference.
Season 1 of Midnight fills itself with new content. One already plans the good builds for Raid, Mythic+ and Delves. Even open-world activities like Prey to Raid have ready optimised builds.
For marksmanship-hunters in Delves, the pet, healing from homebased and reduced damage during launching of misdirect are the best choices. The developers see the talent-system as always green, they want to keep it alive for long time. Because talents get wiped and rebuilt during big updates, havingfirm builds ready from the first day does real difference.
