FromSoftware and Bandai Namco released Elden Ring, that lives as a wild RPG, that hit the market since February 25th 2022 and appeared on PlayStation 4 and other platforms. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creative genius behind Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, led the whole project. The collaboration with George R. R. Martin, the writer known because of Game of Thrones, that created the basic story of the game, did it even more attractive.
The plot unfolds in a world called the Lands Between, ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal. The Elden Ring, that powers the Erdtree, lies smashed. The cutscenes show the chaos: Marika disappeared, and killers attacked Godwyn the Golden.

Her children, those halfgods, each took bits of the broken Ring. But here the key, Marika herself planned the crash on purpose. She refused the eternal cycle.
She did not want that a new Elden Lord take over. Standing still, according to her opinion, would be better.
Who is your Character? A Tarnished. Your task is made up of travel of a vast world full of fights, struggle through it, searching for Ring-bits scattered and ultimately repair of the Elden Ring to earn the rank of Elden Lord.
FromSoftware adapted the difficult fight style, that marks the series of Souls, and planted it in something much more big, an open world, that genuinely respects the players and allow them design there own way.
The landscape breaks free of the usual model of game worlds. It takes ideas from Breath of the Wild about exploration, with huge areas that invite to wander, even so it escapes to become too full a sandbox bound to strict storyline. The game believes in the players quite a lot, for it does not explain everything carefully.
Maps? You find them yourself or leave it be. That balance is part of what makes it this excellent.
The struggle always has that biting tension, that FromSoftware perfected in its Soulsborne games; that same mysterious and heavy atmosphere lasts. Attention to details goes very deep. Even forgotten corners of the map seem carefully designed, never useless.
Areas as the Altus Plateau and Leyndell impress by means of their sight. And hear a sample of good design, take Lichdragon Fortissax, whose fight arena, sounds, history and moves all flow into something genuinely memorable.
The prizes talk for themselves: Elden Ring won Game of the Year and ranks between the most awarded games ever. GameSpot gave it a perfect 10, a point that they rarely reach. The community created hundreds of mods for PC, to keep the game fresh.
The DLC Shadow of the Erdtree brings players to the Land of Shadow, that secret world where the laws of the Golden Order were written by means of blood, full of castles, caves and crypts to explore. A second part, The Abandoned Cave, nowconnects with Elden Ring Nightreign, a cooperative side product.
