Sure, go ahead and debate fire rate if you’d like. But when it comes to a firefight, there’s no metric other then how you’re gonna use up the rest of your ammo. On paper, this sounds obvious. But in practice, most players view their magazine as a limitless supply, until they run out of bullets during a firefight. Guess what? That isn’t true. Magazine capacity don’t equate to strength. It’s more like a bucket with a hole in the bottom and that hole depends entirely based off your accuracy.
So after plugging in all your weapon stats into the calculator, it spits out the numbers. But you have to know what they mean. So first, consider number of hits per kill. That’s not simply damage over health points. It accounts for armor penetration, shield breaking, and the reality that most shots don’t even connect.
Why Accuracy Matters More Than Ammo
So if you’re wielding a five-hit-kill assault rifle with a 30 round mag, that doesn’t equal six possible kills. Depending on how many of those shots land on floor, that equals two or three potential kill max. Folks tend to count bullets rather than hits. For example, if you do 30 damage to an enemy with only ten hitpoints remaining, you’ve wasted 20 points of value. Those are points of value you can no longer spend.
To account for that, the tool allow you to enter your average overkill percentage. Because difference between lethal and excessive damage is larger on high damage weapons (sniper/shotgun), they suffers more from this. Automatic weapons with low damage may waste fewer points per kill, but they fire many more rounds to do it. It’s an exchange of consistency against efficiency. The more you have to waste, the worse it get.
Every second you spend reloading is a second you aren’t applying pressure. If you are inaccurate, you may fire off a magazine without getting an elimination. This leave you needing to reload while multiple target threaten you. As the table on this page shows, downtime tax accumulates quickly. While a rapid reload lessens bad shooting, it doesn’t justify it. You can hide behind a swift swap only so long before the math catches up.
This assumes shot discipline, however. No amount of ammo in a magazine will hold out if sprayed wildly. Precise taps or controlled bursts conserves your ammo and lengthen the time it lasts in battle. This leads to the question of shot quality. If panicked, you deplete twice as quickly since each miss costs you from a finite resource. It is a tactical issue dressed up as a financial one.
The big magazines give you a false sense of security. Seventy rounds in a belt on an LMG? Sounds good until your accuracy drops below twenty percent and you’re just carrying heavier dead weight that takes longer to refill. Sounds good until you can’t hit anything and have to throw away 70% of them. You end up carting around dead weight that is heavier and slower to refill. Small mags makes you careful with each shot. Punishing waste.
The results section shows how long you can stay in a fight by combining your magazine size and your reserve ammo to get the sustain score. Biggest gun doesn’t mean most efficient. Efficiency is about minimizing the distance between pulling the trigger and achieving a result. Whether that’s elimination or damage, you don’t want to waste rounds on anything else. And it shows in the numbers how much you’re wasting.
If you start tracking how many shots you actualy put down range and adjust your fire control based off those stats, you’ll be surprised. You would of often use much less than a full magazine compared to when you didn’t think and just shot until empty.
