Before you become so frustrated that you chuck your computer out the window in a fit of rage when you start up Fallout 76 and see the dreaded blue screen of death, or BSOD, there are a few troubleshooting techniques you should attempt first.
Let’s have a look at some possible solutions that can help you go back to battling robots in no time at all.
Resolving Fallout 76 Blue Screen On Sign In:
- Check Your Network Connection
If you are not on a WiFi connection, try restarting your modem by unplugging it for five minutes before plugging it back in.
This should reset the modem and allow you to connect to the internet again. If this doesn’t work, check your router settings.
Make sure the WAN IP is set to get an IP automatically from the router and that DNS is set to Use Google Public DNS servers (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4).
Make sure DHCP is enabled and check if any other devices connected to the network are experiencing connectivity problems. Finally, reboot your computer one more time.
- Update Graphics Driver
This is a relatively easy fix that can be done by downloading the latest graphics driver from your manufacturer.
If you have an Nvidia card, click here to download the most recent driver. If you have an AMD card, click here to download the most recent driver.
In both cases, follow any on-screen instructions for installation and restart your computer. Once it has rebooted, sign back into Fallout 76 and see if the problem persists. You may also want to try updating other drivers, like sound drivers or Bluetooth drivers.
- Verify game cache
If you’re experiencing a blue screen on sign in, try verifying your game cache. This process will ensure that your computer is downloading the latest data from Bethesda so you can play without interruption. To do this, follow these steps:
- Launch Steam and log in to your account.
- Select Library.
- Right-click Fallout 76 from the list of games and select Properties
- In Properties > Local Files tab > Verify Integrity of Game Cache button
- Wait while it completes
- Restart Fallout 76 and attempt to sign in again
If this doesn’t work, restart your PC and then launch the game.
- Uninstall and Reinstall Game
In order to fix the blue screen, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the game. Follow these steps:
- Navigate to My Games & Apps from your Xbox One dashboard or by pressing the Xbox button on your controller and going to My Games & Apps.
- Highlight Fallout 76 and press the Menu button (three horizontal lines in upper left-hand corner).
- Press Uninstall.
- Once the uninstall process is complete, highlight Install.
- Change Server Or Try Private Server
If you’re seeing a blue screen on sign in, it could be due to one of three problems:
- your Xbox LIVE account is having trouble signing in;
- there are too many players trying to connect at once; or
- the server is experiencing an outage. The best way to fix this problem is to switch servers or try signing up for a private server.
