Don’t panic if you’ve just begun playing Fallout 76 and you’ve already seen the black screen of death; you aren’t the only one to have this issue.
The game is now in the beta testing phase, and this particular issue seems to be one of the most prevalent difficulties that users are encountering.
Fortunately, there are a few solutions that may be of assistance, depending on the nature of the issue that you are experiencing.

- Reboot Your Computer
Restarting your computer is the quickest and simplest approach to cure a dreaded black screen of death.
Your computer will restart automatically if you press and hold the power button until it turns off, then press it again after waiting 30 seconds.

Before doing anything further, it is recommended that you first check the website of your hardware manufacturer for any available driver updates and then install any of those that are relevant.
- Use The Hard Reset (Console)
I did a hard reset on my Xbox and it has been fixed!
- Press and hold the power button on your console for 10 seconds until it completely turns off.
- Plug your console into its power adapter or plug its power cord into a wall outlet.
- Press and release the power button to turn on your console.
- If you’re prompted to connect to Xbox Live, press No.
- Wait while your console restarts.
- After a short period, you’ll be brought back to the Xbox One home screen.
- Go to My Games & Apps from the Home screen.
- Select Fallout 76 from within My Games & Apps and then select
- Turn your console off by pressing and holding down the power button again for 10 seconds or until it fully shuts down this time.
- Update Video Drivers
Many people are encountering a black screen on their screen when they start up Fallout 76. If this happens to you, follow these steps:
- Right click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings.
- Select Display from the panel that pops up.
- Find your video card and click it.
- Click Driver from the pop-up window.
- Scroll down until you see Search automatically for updated driver software and select it.
- Reboot your computer once prompted by Windows.
- Disable Gsync / Vsync
The first step to fix the black screen is to disable Gsync and vsync. There are a number of ways to do this.
- One way is with Nvidia Control Panel settings, but if you are using an AMD graphics card, then you can disable it through Radeon Settings.
- If none of this work, then you can also try to change your power plan to high performance. For Windows 10 users, click on Start > Power > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click on Change Plan Settings and choose High Performance from the dropdown menu. After that, open up Task Manager and find the process called display.
- Right-click on it and select End Process Tree to end any background tasks which might be slowing down your computer. Once that’s done, reboot your PC.
- Try Running in Windowed Mode
If you’re experiencing a black screen when launching Fallout 76, there are a few things to try.
- First, try running the game in Windowed Mode.
- You can do this by opening up your Settings menu and clicking on Display > Advanced Settings > Check Full screen windowed.
- Once you’ve done that, restart your computer. If that doesn’t work, then try disabling or uninstalling any third-party drivers or software such as NVIDIA’s Shadowplay or AMD’s ReLive for recording video games.
- Finally, if none of those options work for you either then try playing Fallout 76 in fullscreen mode with no other windows open at the same time as it should help fix any other problems preventing the game from loading properly.
