There are a lot of handy features available on the Arctis 7 headset. That’s one of the main reasons why it’s easily one of the most popular devices from Steelseries available out there. Out of all these different features, there are many which are very advanced and modern, used to help players out in specific cases.
But there are also those which are completely simple and found in most headphones, but that doesn’t make them any less useful. Speaking of these simple features, there’s one, in particular, that’s not so common which we’ll be discussing today.
This of course refers to the chatmix features, which is easily one of the handiest of all for a lot of players. This option allows users to combine both the chat audio from applications like Discord and the game audio from any games being played and evens them out.
This lets you perfectly play all the games you’re playing with the best audio output possible while also being able to talk with any friends that you wish to call while playing said games. If Arctis 7 chatmix is not working for you, here are some solutions.
How to Fix Arctis 7 Chatmix Not Working?
- Correct Device Settings
The very first thing to do is ensuring that the correct device settings have been assigned, as chatmix will definitely not work on your Arctis 7 otherwise. The input and output devices which are assigned to Windows default settings and to the Discord (or any other VoIP program you’re using) must be different.
All those that have used the Arctis 7 and set it up on their computer know that the device is recognized at two separate ones thanks to the two different modes available to choose on it. One of these is Arctis 7 game and the other one is Arctis 7 chat.
With this said, you’ll need to make sure that the correct ones are assigned to the correct program. The first step is to go to the Windows sound settings. From here, you’ll be able to find the input and output device options.
Make sure that both of these are set to Arctis 7 game. Now go to the VoIP program players are using to change the settings here. Set both input and output options here to Arctis 7 chat. Once chatmix is enabled, it will automatically differentiate between the two whenever you play video games while chatting with someone.
- Add .exe From Discord
This is a solution for all those who are using Discord specifically while encountering this problem with chatmix. There are many reasons why this issue can occur even if the settings are properly adjusted.
But they can be fixed by simply going to the main Discord folder on your computer and taking the .exe file of the DiscordApp from here and adding it into the game profiles. Doing so is all that players need to get the problem solved.
- Allow Applications to Take Control
Other than the correct device settings which were mentioned initially, there are a few others to take into account as well which should be able to help out. One, in particular, is the setting that allows applications to take control of certain aspects of the computer, fixing these problems with chatmix.
To try this solution out, the first thing you’ll need to do is going into the device properties of the headset from Windows sound settings. Now just click on the advanced option and enable the setting that allows applications to take control. If this didn’t work, go back to disable the setting to see if that worked instead, as turning it on and off again is effective at times too.
- Firmware Update
The last possible solution that comes to mind for chatmix problems such as this one is a firmware update for the Arctis 7. These are released frequently and can be installed by all those who are using the Steelseries Engine software along with their headset. Just connect a USB cable and let the application with the headphones and let the application do the rest for you, as simply doing this is an effective solution too.
My chat mix works for the game volume but it doesn’t work for the game chat. When I go all the way down I should hear no game volume and just the chat. When I go all the way up I can hear the game volume and the chat…… It should be:
Up – game only
So messed.
I have the exact same problem with my Arctis 7 headset. Have you found a solution yet?
