Star Wars Galaxies is a game that provides much freedom to the player, but it also does not provide much forgiveness for players who make bad decisions early in the game. If a player selects a profession path that does not necessarily work for the server they have selected to play on, then they must pay a considerable cost to change there profession path. Because the cost of changing profession path through a respec is so high, players who would like to spec into a profession path should use a planning tool like the calculator above that will compute the math for them.

This calculator will ask for there profession path, ruleset, and the box they would like to train. By using the calculator, players will not have to guess as to how many training week they will require for there chosen profession path. The first decision to be made within the game is the profession path that they would like to use for their character.

Plan Your Star Wars Galaxies Character

Rifleman path focus on dealing damage with ranged attacks, but they do not offer the utility to support their team if they do not purchase the right boxes. Doctor path provide utility for their friends but offer less flexibility in its individual play. Creature Handler path require both utility and strength to play well.

The calculator will automatically weight each of these paths so that it can provide feedback to players as to whether or not their chosen boxes support there desired play style. Each of the game’s rulesets have different requirements for the player. For example, pre-CU servers allow players 250 game points to spend as they wish on their character and there build.

However, on combat upgrade servers, players have the same 250 point budget but the build of trees train at a different rate. Restoration servers offer an experience point bonus but require careful planning around there given bonus. Finally, NGE expertise servers only provide 45 points, each of which is a crucial decision in there build.

Each of these rulesets must be accounted for in the calculator so that players are aware of how many training weeks they may require with there chosen ruleset. The focus settings will change how the template score is calculated. For instance, solo PvE servers allow more flexibility from players since they do not have to support others.

For group PvEs, having a strong support component to one’s template is of greater value. PvP duel templates require that players utilize all points effectively since there is only one opponent to fight. For crafting, players must include the ability to have spare training points so that they may perform other task in the game.

Each of these focus selections are included in the calculator so that the resulting template score can reflect the true value of each focus selection. The most common mistake that players make is to ignore the importance of the master boxes in there template. These master boxes are costly but contain strong abilities for players.

If players neglect to include the master boxes for basic play skills in there game, there template may not correctly function within the game. The calculator will warn players of the importance of these skills if the player’s remaining training points are less than eight but if the budget is negative, then they will need to ignore some of the luxurius boxes within the game. The experience point pacing that a player desires will impact the number of training weeks required for there template.

The calculator will ask for the number of experience points that a player gains each hour and the number of hours that they can dedicate to training each week. For example, players who wish to spec as a Jedi will find that it takes more experience to train for the Jedi paths so there will be more training weeks. Whereas, a slower-paced entertainer will train to spec as an entertainer who has support boxes to assist there friend in need.

The calculator will not set a training schedule for players but provide feedback to players as to whether or not there chosen template will accommodate the time that they have available. Some of the most common mistakes is choosing a build that ignores experience point pacing. Some players will choose to fill there main tree with advanced boxes but have no points left over for utility trees.

Others will focus too much on group support so that they are unable to handle there character by themselves. The calculator will not prevent these mistakes but will give players an idea of the trade-offs they will have to make prior to dedicating any more experience points to there character in a respec. Players should always ensure that they have a small amount of experience points saved for potential new game content.

Such a reserve does not need to be large but should be large enough so that gaining one new box will not force them to change templates entirely. This reserve is included in the calculator within the second result card so that players will be aware of whether there template includes a healthy or flexible state. If the game indicates that there template is tight or over cap then they should focus on there core functions for the game.

Building a successful character requires players to make trade-offs. For example, placing a point into one tree means they cannot place it into another tree. Choosing a master box for there template limits there play style.

However, the calculator makes it easy for players to read the trade-offs and players decide which are acceptable to them.
