Battle Cats is a free tower-defense game created by the Japanese studio Ponos, that first released it in 2014 under the name Nyanko Big War. One can download it for iOS or Android and honestly, the numbers are wonderful, it already reached more than 90 million downloads around the whole world. That shows how popular it is, especially for a game that spins around bizarre cats, that fight through different worlds.
The basic idea is very easy: you lead a weird army of cats through space and time adventures. The fighting itself can not be simpler, simply touch a cat, and it charges against the enemies. There are no long tutorials that would slow you, and the controls are so natural, that you soon catch the rhythm in only some moments.
Battle Cats: How the Game Works
The cats themselves are funny and strange, scattered in different galaxies with unusual traits. There is a terrific list with hundreds of fighting cats, that you can hunt and gather. Your main task is to strengthen your army by leveling up, beating odd opponents and searching for precious objects.
When your cat reaches the 10th level, it receives an evolve chance. From treasure items one can create strong artifacts, that increase your forces. Want to pull rare or exotic cats?
The capsule device is the place, where that spell heppans.
The creators always add new material, so that the game does not get stale. It stays in good form from the start. Already for six or seven years it succeeds.
Most pleasant is, that the gacha-system is not as aggressive as in many other games. To get the wanted rare cats, you do not need too feel hopeless. Actually, one can advance a lot without spending money for gacha, although naturally it requires more tries on that path.
There is also a version for Nintendo Switch called Battle Cats Unite, that introduces fresh elements. This version includes multiplayer mode, where you and your friends can compete directly for special prizes. Join with others to attack the Dog Army together, or push your cat troops to prove who rules.

The official Facebook community of Battle Cats has more than 545,000 fans, and there are active fans scattered through wikis, forums and subreddits, where players exchange tactics to beat levels and best arrange their cat lists.
