If you’ve recently purchased the new 7 Days to Die game and are having problems with the black screen on launch, we’ve got some tips and tricks you can use to fix this problem.
The good news is that there aren’t many reasons why this problem happens in the first place, so there are only a handful of fixes you can try out to get your game running properly again.
7 Days To Die Black Screen On Launch:
- Update Your Graphics Drivers
Check if you have the latest graphics drivers installed and make sure that they are up to date. You can do this by going into your device manager and right clicking on your graphics card.
If there is an update for your driver, then please install it. You can also go onto Steam’s website and click Check for Updates in the lower left corner of their page.
- Verify Your Game Files
Sometimes a black screen appears when launching 7 Days to Die. This is usually because some of the game files are missing or not up-to-date.
To fix this, you’ll need to verify your game files. There are two ways that you can do this:
- Close 7DTD and Steam (if open).
- Navigate to your 7DTD folder in Program Files, right click it and select Properties.
- In the window that pops up, go to the Local Files tab and click Verify Integrity of Game Cache. This will update any missing files automatically.
- Change Your Resolution
First, try closing and restarting 7 Days to die. If that doesn’t work, try lowering the resolution. You can do this by right clicking 7 Days to Die in your Steam library then going into Properties -> Set launch options -> type -width 800 -height 600 without quotes. If that doesn’t work, go back into properties and add -fullscreen as a launch option.
- Try Running The Game In Windowed Mode
If you’re experiencing a black screen on launch, try running the game in Windowed mode. This is a quick fix and should not be too difficult.
- From your desktop, right-click 7 Days to Die and select Properties from the menu that pops up.
- Under Compatibility, check Run this program in compatibility mode for and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
- Click Apply and OK. Now try launching the game again; you should see a window pop up with your game inside of it.
- If it doesn’t work, you might need to update DirectX or change your resolution before trying again.
- Reinstall the Game
If you’re having a problem with your game not loading, try reinstalling it. This should be done by following these steps in order for it to work properly:
- Ensure that you have a good internet connection and the game is updated by going into the Steam Library and selecting Check for updates.
- Download 7 days to die from Steam again.
- Delete any previous installations of 7 days to die by either uninstalling or deleting the folder that contains your saved games and documents (in Windows).
- Put downloaded files into Steam folder as before–but do not overwrite anything already there–and then restart Steam.
