KOTOR 2 is one of the most beloved Star Wars games of all time. With its deep story, engaging gameplay, and fantastic soundtrack, it still stands up today as one of the greatest examples of video game storytelling ever made.
One of the biggest gripes fans have with KOTOR 2, however, is that they can’t get the sound to work properly on their computers without having to jump through hoops. If you’re one of those people who can’t get this classic game to play its sound effects, don’t worry!
Fixing KOTOR 2 No Sound:
- Deactivate all audio devices except the ones you want to use
Deactivating all audio devices except the ones you want to use can help solve the problem of no sound in KOTOR 2. To do this, go to the control panel and click on Sound. Then, under Playback, click on the device you want to use and set it as the default device. Finally, restart your computer and try launching KOTOR 2 again.
- Update your drivers
One of the most common reasons for audio issues is outdated drivers. If you’re experiencing no sound in KOTOR 2, the first thing you should do is update your audio drivers. You can usually find the latest drivers on your sound card or motherboard manufacturer’s website. Once you’ve updated your drivers, restart the game and see if that fixes it.
- Restart Windows
If you’re experiencing no sound in KOTOR 2, the first thing you should try is restarting Windows. This will fix a lot of sound issues, and it’s easy to do. Just hit the Start button, then click on the power icon and select Restart. Once your computer has rebooted, launch KOTOR 2 and see if the sound is working. If it isn’t, move on to the next step.
- Uninstall and reinstall
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the game. This often fixes issues with corrupted files. To do this, go to your Steam library, right-click on KOTOR 2, and select Uninstall. Once the game is uninstalled, reinstall it from scratch.
- Use Steam, not GoG Galaxy
- If you’re using the GoG Galaxy version of KOTOR 2, you may be having trouble with the game’s sound. Luckily, there’s an easy fix. All you need to do is switch to the Steam version of the game. Here’s how
- Open up the KOTOR2 folder and right-click on game_x86.exe.
- Select Create Shortcut.
- Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties.
- Add -silent to the end of the target field and then click OK.
- Double-click on your new shortcut to launch KOTOR 2 without any audio.
- Now go back into the KOTOR2 folder and find this file: kotor2game.ini
- Open it up with Notepad or another text editor, and scroll down until you see this line: snd_musicvolume=100%
- Change 100% to 0% (no quotes). You should now have a line that says snd_musicvolume=0%. Don’t forget to save!
- Next open Steam and go into Settings -> In-Game -> Enable Audio (or something similar). Check both boxes next to ‘Music’ and ‘Sound’.
