Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords can be a great game if you like Star Wars and RPGs, but it doesn’t always play nicely on modern systems. If you find that your movement keys no longer work in-game, don’t worry – there’s an easy fix!
In this guide, we’ll take you through all the steps necessary to get your movement keys working again in KOTOR 2, along with some further information to help you troubleshoot if the game keeps crashing or locking up at random times.
Fixing KOTOR 2 Movement Keys Stop Working:
- Check your key bindings
Sometimes when your movement keys stop working in KOTOR 2, it’s because you’ve accidentally bound them to something else. To check your key bindings, go to Options > Key Bindings. Scroll down to the Movement section and make sure that WASD is still bound to forwarding, Backward, Left, and Right. If it isn’t, simply click on the key and press the desired movement key.
- Check your controller settings
It’s always a good idea to keep your drivers up-to-date, and that includes your game drivers. If you’re experiencing issues with movement keys in KOTOR 2, it could be due to outdated or corrupt drivers. You can update your drivers manually by going to your manufacturer’s website and searching for the most recent correct driver. However, if you don’t have the time, patience, or computer skills to update your drivers manually, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.
- Update your drivers
One of the most common causes of KOTOR 2 movement keys not working is outdated drivers. If you’re not sure what drivers are, they’re the software that allows your computer to communicate with your hardware. Outdated drivers can cause all sorts of problems, so it’s important to keep them up-to-date. You can usually find the latest drivers on your manufacturer’s website. For example, if you have a Dell laptop, the drivers would be on their site. I recommend using Driver Booster by IObit because it scans for driver issues and updates them in one click.
- Reset Steam Cloud saves
If you’re playing KOTOR 2 and your movement keys have stopped working, don’t panic! This is a common issue that can be easily fixed by resetting your Steam Cloud saves. To do this, simply go to the Steam Cloud tab in your Steam settings and click Reset Cloud Data. Doing this will delete all of your current saves, so make sure to back them up first! After resetting your data, try launching the game again and see if the issue has been resolved.
- Reinstall Steam and KOTOR2
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:
- Quit Steam and any other applications that might be running in the background.
- Go to your Steam installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\Steam\) and delete everything except for the steamapps folder and Steam.exe.
- Run Steam.exe to log back into your account.
- Go to your Library and reinstall KOTOR2. You should now be able to use the keyboard again!
- The only downside of this fix is that you will need to re-download all of your games from your library, but at least you’ll have full control over them again.
