Borderlands 4 cast you in a loot shooter full of trillions of weapons, wild enemies and fierce chaos. It marks the fifth main title from Gearbox Software in the series that follows directly Borderlands 3. The game received its announcement during Gamescom in August 2024 and will arrive in stores September 12th 2025 for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S, while the version for Switch 2 will appear October 3rd.

The adventure happens on Kairos a deadly planet under the grip of a cruel dictator. Already six years passed since the events in the prior game. You crash land as one of four fresh vault hunters, ready to hunt riches and fame.

Borderlands 4: Big Guns, New Moves and Launch Problems

Breaking out from that rough hole by means of hunting alien vaults, grabbing wild guns and releasing deadly skills.

What truly separates every vault hunter is its own endless play style tied to one of three Skill Tree paths. Movement matters much more now. Double jumping, skating, dodging, climbing, you can attack from every possible direction.

Branching Skill Tree setups allow you to build exactly what you want, and the loot shooter grind goes deep with wild weapons and strong tools that genuinely feel rewarding.

Teamwork weaves into the whole experience. Four player online teamwork works across all platforms, while only two player split screen couch teamwork is available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The whole difficulty simply adjusts when you play it together with freinds.

Borderlands 4 looks directly at what failed in Borderlands 3, the bad humor, villains that never end, bosses who swallow bullets for days; and truly fixes those problems. The whole game runs on Unreal Engine 5. To run it, you need minimum specs like chip i7-9700 or 2700X, 16 GB RAM, a graphics card at the level of 2070 or 5700 XT, and around 100 GB free SSD space.

GameSpot rated it at 7 out of 10 points on PC, calling it the most smooth Borderlands game until now. Sales numbers during launch were huge, the biggest in the history of the series, and it became the third most successful sail of 2025. Even so, it did not reach what the publisher hoped.

On Steam, players gave it mostly negative opinions, mainly because of performance problems and bugs that hurt the debut.

DLC already appears. Story Pack 1, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Devil, will exit March 26th as paid content. It brings a new vault hunter called C4SH, who teams up with Ellie in a wild cosmic horror story that happens across the Frost Glacier.

The Deluxe Edition includes the base game, the Orbital Glory Pack as a preorder bonus, the Fierce Firehawk weapon skin and the Premium Season Pack. Only two months after debut, Black Friday deals dropped the price to 35 dollars atAmazon and GameStop.
