Creating a character in Bannerlord involves decisions about attributes, culture, and skills, all of which can impact your character’s performance within the game. Each player begin the game by choosing a culture and distributing there attribute points, both of which will impact their ability to win sieges, trade routes, and maintain influence within their clan. Overall, the success of a player’s character in Bannerlord is dependent upon an understanding of each of these different system within the game.

Culture provide bonuses to a player that are passive in nature; they dont require a player to perform any actions to receive those benefits. For instance, players who select the Vlandian culture will receive bonuses to their cavalry and renown value. Battanian players, however, will receive bonuses to their bow and scouting abilities.

How to Make a Good Bannerlord Character

Lastly, those who select the Empire culture will receive bonuses to their settlement and engineering skill. While players can choose any other skill for their character, the culture will provide benefits to certain skill over others. A calculator can assist a player in understanding how the attributes of their chosen culture may work alongside their attribute point distribution.

Attributes determine which skill a player can increase. For instance, increasing the number of points allocated to the Vigor attribute will increase a player’s proficiency with melee weapon. Increasing the number of points allocated to the Control attribute will increase a player’s proficiency with ranged weapon.

Finally, increasing the number of points allocated to the Intelligence attribute will increase a player’s proficiency in skill like Steward, Medicine, and Engineering. Additionally, the number of points allocated to increasing personal damage will impact how many troop can be fed into a party, as well as how quickly those troop can recover from wounds. Many player will make the mistake of attempting to distribute focus points to each of these skill equally; such a strategy, however, will lead to mediocrity in each of a player’s skill.

A character planner will show the maximum level that each of a player’s skill can reach, which will help them to understand if they have enough focus to reach their next skill milestone. Each player can have up to three role for their clan, each of which provide bonuses to the character and their party. For instance, selecting the Quartermaster role will increase the size of the player’s party and their food efficiency.

Choosing the Surgeon role will protect veteran troop for the player; veterans will be less likely to get wounded in battles. Finally, the Scout role will increase a player’s movement speed and their vision of the map. Each player can assign themselves to a role or to one or more of their companion for the game.

The benefits of assigning themselves to a role will provide compounding returns for the player and their companion. However, if the player does not perform the assignment of a role to themselves, then they must rely upon their companions to fulfill these roles. A planning tool can help players to determine which role they have too many of themselves, and which of their companion have duties covering their roles.

Each player has a combat lane and specialization for their character. For instance, polearm cavalry specialization will work well for players of the Vlandian culture and those who have selected leadership perk; the opposite of these two choice will benefit the use of bow for their character. A player should consider these two factor in determining whether or not their combat lane is an effective choice for their character; if it isnt, their character may struggle during late-game battle.

Beyond the skill that a player controls for their character, there are also different level of characters and skill. In the early game, players should have an even distribution of skill for survival in the random battle of the game. In the mid-game, however, players should focus their effort on maximizing the level of a specific skill past the 175-level mark.

Finally, in the late game players should aim to maximize the level of their skill to reach the 275-level capstones. These table can assist a player in determining if their focus point are within the appropriate number for reaching the next level for their skill. Many player make mistake when creating their character.

For instance, players may focus their effort on maximizing the Charm skill in order to recieve the best price for the item that they trade, but their lack of focus on their combat skill will cause their party to lose battle against other player’s party. Additionally, many player will find themselves overly focused on their combat skill while their Steward skill remains low and they cannot feed their army. A game planner will allow a player to understand the readiness of their character by comparing their role cap, their party size, and their skill level.

If their readiness score is low, it indicates that one of their skill lane is lagging behind the other skill for their character. While game planner and calculator will allow a player to determine the strength and weakness of their character before they begin to play, the main purpose of such planning is to assist the player in making decision about which trade-off they are willing to make. For instance, a player could opt to sacrifice their movement speed in order to gain experience with infantry battle, or they could opt to sacrifice their party size to maintain high level in their Medicine and Engineering skill to fight in siege.

These trade-off can be made clear with a character calculator prior to the player beginning to play the game. Additionally, once each of a player’s number align with their playing style, the player will have an easier time succeeding throughout the campaign for their clan.
