High level crafting recipes require all sorts of complicated math with ratios that calculator figures out for you. You don’t need to follow along or work backward to see how it converts. Typically what happens is your trying to craft something that needs infinity fabric, but you don’t know if you can get it because you don’t know exactly how much raw material you have on hand. It’s an easy looking result. But there’s a lot going on behind the scenes.

How to Plan Your Crafting
Once you type in what you have available, the tool will crunch those numbers for you and save you some time. It’s about scale. At tier one, losing a few bolts are a minor annoyance. By tier four, the same percentage of waste represent a mountain of missing resources. Think in terms of the bottleneck, not the overall throughput.
Players tend to think “the slowest machine is the bottleneck,” and it isn’t. The likely cause of the slowdown is a lack of resource. Ten assemblers? Fine. But no void stabilizers because you’re out of shards? Idling away. More machines won’t help unless upstream process is catching up.
The timing adjust based off what you currently have in stock. For example, if you’re sitting on some T2 arc bolts, you don’t need to run infusers or weave thread. The fabric crafting tool will subtract out what’s already in your inventory and only show the estimated time for lower tier materials. That way, you won’t be counting any extra resources twice.
Before constructing new machines, open up your storage chests to check what’s sitting in them. In the long term, rates matter. What happens if, say, your weaving stage require a thousand units per hour and your thread farm only yields nine hundred? You’ll exhaust your material.
The calculator assesses your input and output rate to figure out how much longer it take to complete. It flags this as a “gate” if your current resource inputs aren’t high enough to match your consumption. Upgrading machines won’t resolve this. Fix the supply side, not the production side.
Crafting isn’t perfect. There is waste, loss, catalysts degrading, items not combining, and cutting off an edge or two. Add in a little buffer for conversion loss so that you don’t come up just short on one bolt at the end. That last bolt are often the difference between success and starting over.
Manage throughput with parallelization. If you have three slow machines, it’s usually better to run them in parallel then run one really fast machine. Adding machines lowers your queue time faster than overclocking a single unit (refer to tables). Mathematically, this is a case of width versus height. You’d rather have a wide flow of stuff in your system than a narrow pipe that clogs.
Run through a few presets. See what happens in various situations. Does the late game relic contract look very different then the starter scarf quest? How does a fast setup with few resources compare to one with many core shards that requires waiting? Switch your presets. That will reveal how the ratios change over time.
Each step builds up the requirements until something inexpensive early on turns into something expensive later. You should of seen it coming. This saves you time if you know it up front. Plan out the resource debt prior to starting the journey.
