Timing: Run the numbers once for the current HP and again after expected incoming damage. HoTs often look wasteful until the next tick window is included.
Build tuning: A crit-focused healer should leave more missing HP headroom before the cast, because the average heal hides the size of a lucky spike.

The big number show up, all in bright green. It looks good. It’s cool. And then you realize it isn’t even making a dent because your teammate is already at max health. All the points beyond that dissapears. No one survives from any of that wasted healing. You just spent your mana and cooldowns for nothing, and now you’re out of juice when someone really needs you.
