This should sound familiar to you; it happens a lot. You build that lifesteal champion with everything but kitchen sink, thinking you’re going to drain your opponent dry while staying untouched. So you step into lane and trade blows. After only two seconds, you’re dead because unseen mechanics stripped your heals. But hey, you say, I didn’t know! Next time … or so you think, until you remember there are two sides to every battle: damage and healing.

How many lives you can steal on paper is beside the point. The relevant factor is whether your life steal comes in fast enough to match the damage you are taking at any given moment. This difference change everything about building for gear.

Why Your Lifesteal Is Not Working

That’s part of why certain people like running a bit of sustain and defense instead of going balls-deep with pure damage. It keeps things stable and offsets the cost of flubbing an auto attack or getting yourself out of position.

But don’t try for infinite sustain.” Only stay alive long enough to finish the trade you are in. To see if you’re doing it right, analyze the numbers. Your net pressure should be negative.
