Armor weight in the New World is a system that determine how much mobility and how much protection a player has during combat. The armor weights of a player is calculated based on the piece of armor that they choose to wear and the shield that they choose to carry. The armor weight category of a player determine the movement speed and defensive capability of that player.
Additionally, armor weight also play a crucial role in determining a player’s damage output and healing effectiveness. By use the calculator included in the game, players can determine their armor weight category. This will tell them what category of armor weight they falls under with the armor pieces that they wear and the shield that they use.
How Armor Weight Affects Movement and Protection
There are three different category for armor weight: light load, medium load, and heavy load. Players that use light load armor will have the fastest dodge speed and receive the most largest bonuses to their damage and healing output. However, they will have the least amount of protection for their character if an attacking player hit them.
Players that use medium load armor will find a balance between the speed at which they can move and dodge attacks and the protection that they have from other players. Heavy load armor provide the most durability and block stability for a character but reduces the damage and mobility of that character. Many players may make mistake when selecting the armor pieces for their character.
For example, adding a heavy chest piece will improve the protection of the character, but it will also increase their armor weight so much that they may move from a light load to a medium load. Another mistake that players may make is without realizing it when adding a shield to their character’s equipment. This is because any shield will add to the armor weight of that player.
Therefore, players must consider the weight of the shield that they select for their character. For example, round shields have a low weight, so light load players can use round shields normaly. However, tower shields has a high weight and will force any character to use tower shields to use medium or heavy load armor.
The calculator also has a toggle for the shield since players may have two different weapon set pieces but only use one of them. Thus, players can use it to calculate only when they are using a shield. Armor weight create a tradeoff between damage output and the durability of the players character.
Players with light load armor will have high damage output and healing effectiveness but will have less armor protection. Players with heavy load armor will have high protection but will also have a high amount of damage taken. Medium load armor will fall in the middle and provide players with neither a significant bonus to their damage nor healing effectiveness.
Players must decide what they want more of, whether they want to focus on their mobility or their protection. Whenever a player changes multiple pieces of equipment, they should check the armor weight of their player.
For example, lighter leg and boot pieces can balance out a heavy chest piece. However, two medium armor pieces and a shield will increase the armor weight of the character.
