💡Planner Tips

Skill split tip: Starfield builds feel smoother when the main weapon tree is paired with either Tech for ships, Science for research, or Physical for O2 and carry capacity. A high Combat score without survival support can still feel strained during long facility clears.
Route planning tip: Ship and outpost focus should match your economy posture. Survey builds want range, O2, and Science; boarding builds want Tech, Combat, carry weight, and a loot plan; manufacturing builds want Science before Social.

Creating a character in teh game Starfield requires that you ensure that each part of the character build work together with the other parts of that character build. Each character build in Starfield consist of many different parts. The various parts of a character build include a background for the player, traits for the player, skill points, ship roles, outpost plans, weapon preferences, and survival numbers.

Each of these aspect of a character build must work together within the build in order for the player to enjoy the game. A calculator can be used in determining whether each of these aspects of a character build work together for that player. The background for a player is one aspect of a character build that can impact another aspect of that character build: the growth of a players skill.

Use the Readiness Score to Check Your Starfield Character Build

For instance, a player that chooses the soldier background will gain advantage in developing skills related to combat and physicality. Alternatively, a player that chooses the explorer background will gain advantages in skills relating to surveying and endurance. The score that is calculated for each player will automatically include these background bonuses.

Traits are an aspect of a character build that also has an impact upon other aspects of a players character build. For instance, if a player choose the trait of Alien DNA, they will develop advantages in surviving in extreme environment and in exploring planets for resources. However, a player that chooses the Alien DNA trait will find that their social skill are relatively limited.

Other traits have similar tradeoffs in their benefits and drawback. Players have the ability to choose up to three trait for their character build. These traits will automatically be reflected in the readiness scores that is calculated for the character build.

Another factor in determining a players capability in the game is the players choice of weapon. This choice does involve some mathematics to determine the capability of the players character based off each type of weapon. For instance, a player that chooses to use heavy weapons will have a disadvantage in that they require more carry capacity than other types of weapon.

However, a player that chooses to use suppressed pistols may have fewer advantage in combat skills but may have advantages in stealth and economic aspect of the game. The game will automatically perform these calculations. A player can also choose a focus for their spaceship within the game and they can also create plans for their spaceships outpost.

While these two aspect may seem separate from one another, they do work together. For instance, if a player establishes their spaceship as a focus for long-range exploration, then they will likely want to form their outpost plans with an emphasis on research or storage. These choices will automatically impact the readiness score calculate for each players character build.

The survival numbers for a player will impact how long that player can remain on a planet in the game and how much loot they can bring back from the planets facilities. These survival numbers is required for the player as they cant be ignored within the game. For instance, if a player develops high rank in combat skills within the game but they have low carry capacity, the player will score less in the economy category of their calculated readiness score.

This is due to the players lack of ability to transport valuable loot from the planets explored by the player. Thus, the survival numbers are an automatic calculation that is included in the character build readiness score. The readiness calculator for characters within the game does not reveal one number, but rather reveal three different readiness scores for a player: one for combat skills, one for exploration skills, and one for economy skills.

These readiness scores can allow a player to understand their focus of effort for their character. For example, a readiness score within the mid-seventies means that the player is ready to begin normal playthroughs of the game, but may struggle with more difficult content. A readiness score that reach 85 or above suggest that the player will be able to handle the majority of situations in the game without having to adjust their character build.

Each of the aspect of the character build will be represented within the readiness scores. The value of the readiness score calculator is that it force a player to consider the type of play that they wish to enjoy within the game. For example, each of the skill points can be distributed to any skill tree within the game.

However, each of the other aspect of the game will benefit from a player focusing upon specific skill. For instance, if a player establishes a pure focus on combat skills for their character build, they may also wish to establish an outpost with a focus on research in order to improve their exploration score without sacrificing their combat score. The readiness score calculator allows players to envision these types of scenario for their desired character build.

While the readiness score calculator will not tell a player which character they should play within the game, the calculator will provide players with the knowledge of whether or not the character that they have described will work within the game. Each players character must be able to handle some of the hardest and most important skill within the game: fighting opponents, performing long exploratory surveys of the planets, and making trade decision between planets. For these reason, the calculator would of provided players with the knowledge and clarity of whether or not they will enjoy playing their character for an extended period of time.
