In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, you allocate skill points to specific skill trees to create a character build. Your character build determine how well your character performs in the games combat mission. As your character levels up, you earn skill points that allow you to unlock new ability within the three skill trees your character features.
Each character features three different skill trees. Therefore, you must decide how to distribute your skill points among these three tree. If you distribute your points too wide among the trees, you might not have enough skill point to unlock the capstone skill at the end of a tree.
Pick One Main Skill Tree to Unlock the Final Skill
Capstone skills is the most powerful skills within each tree and require 25 or 26 skill points to unlock. You should allocate your skill points to the primary skill tree according to an action skill your character features. The action skill your character uses in combat.
For example, Wilhelm’s action skill is summoning drone, so you should focus his skill points on the Cyber Commando tree. Athena’s action skill is summoning shields, so you should focus her skill points on the Phalanx tree. By aligning your skill points with your action skill, your character will have more better skill synergy, which improve the damage your character does in-game.
Depending on your desired build goal, you can distribute your skill points differently. If your goal is to increase the damage your character does with guns, focus your points on the middle skill trees. If you want to use elemental damage, focus on the skill trees that give you status effect.
Finally, if you want to use melee attacks, focus on the skill trees that will increase the damage you do with melee attack. Before you allocate your skill points to skill trees, you must have a goal for your characters skill build. This will determine how many skill points you allocate to each tree.
A common mistake in the game is not reaching the capstone skill for the Tier 6 in the primary tree for your character. Each tree has different skill tier. To reach each following tier, you must spend five skill points.
If you do not spend at least 24 skill points in a tree, you will not reach the Tier 6 capstone skill. However, if you spend 26 skill points in one tree, you will unlock that capstone skill. To make better use of your skill points, allocate as many as possible to reach the capstone skill in one tree before allocating much of your skill points to a second tree.
Otherwise, you will reach Tier 3 or 4 in several trees but will lack the power that a capstone skill can provide. You can use a build calculator to assist you in the game. A build calculator will take your characters level and your desired build goal and show you how to allocate your skill points to the trees without spending more skill points than you can earn.
Many build calculators has preset builds. Preset builds are skill point allocations that have been tested in the game to increase the characters effectiveness in combat missions. By using a preset build, you ensure that your character will have the necessary skills and skill point allocations for challenging battles.
Finally, the class mod and relics you buy for your character can give you extra skill points. These can help you reach your desired capstone skills for your characters tree.
