Note: This article bases on real data gathered from several internet resources about taming in Dododex.
Dododex works as a calculator for taming and a helpful app for ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Survival Ascended. It helps players estimate how much time is needed for taming almost every dinosaur. It also shows the foods and medicines that every tamed creature needs.
How Dododex Helps You Tame Dinosaurs
One can download the app for iOS and Android, and it has also a web-based version at dododex.com.
The app provides a regularly updated guide for every creature in the game. It covers calculations for taming, recipes for kibble, recipes for saddles and details about knockout performance for any weapon, including homemade tools. It also shows what stuff different species of dinos leave after death.
In the newest updates, the app includes images of every creature in ARK, which matches a commonly expressed wish of the players.
Among the most useful features is the list of tamed creatures. If one chooses the option “Tamed” in teh menu of dinos, it shows all creatures that one marked as tamed. One finds here also a calculator for resources, a list for checking taming and a wishlist, both being commonly requested features.
To get correct calculations, the settings in Dododex must match those of the server. On official servers, the built-in default settings work great. During events for evolution on weekends, one must change the settings so that they match.
In solo worlds, every change too the game settings needs a check in the Dododex settings. Things like speed of food use or solo settings turned on affect everything about taming. When the numbers seem weird, probably the server settings simply differ from those that one entered in the calculator.
Passive taming can be difficult. It often does not show the time perfectly, because the gaps for feeding range between week and strong creatures. The steps for feeding sometimes happen in ways that do not fit the planned times or amounts.
Creatures of X-type need more hits to knock out because of their high damage resistance and sleep resistance in wild state. Dododex offers an option to fix that. Besides the difference in knockout performance, creatures of X, R and Aberrant have the same needs for taming compared to their normal forms.
Dododex works well for checking the wild stats before starting taming. It helps to estimate whether a creature at level 150 in wild state deserves the effort for taming and how many points it has in stats. Even so, some stats change after taming, which can trick Dododex for checking them later.
For wild stats though, it does the job. The app is used by morethan nine million players, and it was made by one developer. Its code is also public on GitHub.
