WoW SoD stands for World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery. It is the second seasonal release for WoW Classic Blizzard answers the desire for Classic+ with Season of Discovery. In SoD, Blizzard takes a different path and adds content that expands WoW Classic.
It introduces a reimagined progression system where players find hidden runes to unlock new abilities. SoD is based on the Classic WoW content but with twists on a solved game.
WoW Classic Season of Discovery: New Content, Classes and PvP
New content in WoW Classic Season of Discovery includes new mechanics such as Rune Engraving, class changes, new gear and items, new level-up raids, and new World PvP events. Classes feel more versatile and are not locked into one spec to play the endgame. SoD makes some classes feel way better.
For example, boomkin is actually playable there, and the class balance is much better overall. SoD plays way more smoothly and has more custom stuff.
Class guides include the best SoD character builds and all SoD runes for each class. Profession guides are optimized so players can quickly level the respective profession from 1 to 300. Leveling guides are available for Classic Era, HC, and SoD realms.
Wowhead has been pretty accurate with most of the same info for SoD.
In SoD, living bomb alone almost kills mobs and does so within a few seconds at low levels. The mobs have increased damage and health proportional to levle. At low levels it feels completely overpowered, but by 40-50 players notice they are not killing everything in two buttons anymore and the danger is very real.
Once in end game gear everything gets steamrolled again.
The level cap started at 25 for a whole phase, which meant players did not have to feel super committed to one class. Players are still raiding on Wild Growth server. With free character transfers from Crusader Strike, there has been a revival.
Blood Moon PvP has been revived too, with server-wide parties every Saturday and 1v1 tournaments with over 1k gold prizes.
Blizzard has no plans to delete Season of Discovery characters or shut down SoD realms. WoW Classic including HC and SoD can be played on the Steam Deck. Controller support was added in the interface with interact options and dynamic targeting.
Playing handheld is definitely clunky but players can get used to it. The console port addon helps with setup for PvP on handheld devices. SoD has been one of the best gaming experiences for thousands of players.
