The base stats of the first generation Pokémon is a great resource for you that plays the original games Red, Blue or Yellow. Here is a list with all 151 Pokémon that shows the basic values for every species from that era. Those base stats form a key part of every Pokémon, and they are arranged in sortable lists by columns
The values of base stats range between 5 and 250, but almost no Pokémon reach those extremes. Usually they move between 30 and 130, where 80 is the middle value. Mewtwo rules the top with the highest base stats in Gen 1, including 154 Special, 130 Speed and high Attack and HP.
First Generation Pokémon Base Stats
Its total reaches 590 points. Dragonite follows with 500, as does Mew, that has perfectly equal 100 values across the board.
Interesting fact about the first generation is that the Special stat was only one value. It stood for Special Attack and Special Defense, before you split them into two stats in Gen 2. Because of that change, some original Pokémon saw changes in Special Attack or Defense.
Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan got the most from that split. For Hitmonchan the Special Defense beats even the Attack, which is really wild. The hitmon Pokémon were however really weak in Gen 1.
In the first generation, Attack and Defense work almost the same as today. Defense lowers the damage of physical moves, that depends on the Attack stat. Fire and water type attacks used the Special.
All Eeveelutions have same basic stat total of 525, only with different numbers for every species.
The stats in Generation 1 depend on DVs, which means Diversification Values. They are like IVs in newer games, but only from 1 until 15, and the HP DV is calculated from the other DVs. There are also Stat Experience points.
Each of the five categories. HP, Attack, Defense, Special and Speed, can reach a maximum of 65535 stat exp, which at level 100 gives 63 extra stat points. Beating Pokémon in fight gives stat exp based on its species, and vitamins help until a certain limit.
For games of Gen 1 there is a calculator, that lets you enter IVs to see stats of a particular Pokémon, or leave it empty to see all possibilities at a certain level. There is also a spreadsheet with all base stats of Gen 1 plus tank values, that shows Defense multiplied by HP. Gen 1 was more tank-based than today’s games, but Alakazam did not need HP or Defense.
Speed and Special were enough for it. Generation 1 is clearly simpler than modern games, with only 151 species, without genders, without abilities and without held items.
