💡Tips
Tip: Diamond and netherite both hit 20 armor, but netherite adds more toughness for larger blows.
Tip: If your planned hit count is the real goal, check the breakdown row for remaining HP after the full sequence.

Armor is a category of items that gives players and some mobs different levels of protection against common kinds of damage. These are helmets, chestplates, leggings and boots that you put in special slots of the player inventory. The armor shows on the wearer.

A full set is made up of helmet or cap, chestplate or tunic, leggings or pants, boots and shield. You usually make it from ingots

How Armor Works in Minecraft

There are six main types of armor by strength: leather armor, chainmail armor, gold armor, iron armor, diamond armor and netherite armor. Every piece of armor gives fixed protection. When a player wears armor, it gives Defense Points where every icon is worth two points.

Various pieces add different amounts to total protection. In Minecraft damage reduction is counted by a system: you add the points of every piece then they change to percentages of reduction.

Less strong armor breaks fastrly. One blow does not show a big difference between materials. But after 25 blows a player probably dies in leather armor while in diamond armor he probably stays alive.

The chestplate works best then come leggings, boots and lastly the helmet that protects the least.

Iron armor is easy to get and works well. In some cases leather is harder to find then iron. Chainmail armor drops only from monsters so it is not practical.

Gold armor has low durability so almost none use it. Diamond and netherite are at the top. Because of its strength netherite beats diamond.

Toughness of armor is extra defense against attacks that normally break average armor.

Netherite armor requires several steps for upgrading but it is the best in Minecraft. With a smithing table you can upgrade diamond armor. Full netherite armor enchanted with Protection IV, Unbreaking III and Mending together with simple enchantments like Feather Falling or Respiration form the strongest practical protection for most uses.

Protection reduces all damage by 4% for every level while special protections give 8% only for a specific type up to 80%. Full Protection IV reaches 64% reduction for everything. With good armor a player can go a bit more bravely into the world.

Leather armor can be dyed different colors using a craftingtable.
