The Xbox 360 is a home video game device made by Microsoft. It follows the original Xbox and forms the second part of the Xbox family. It was officially shown in the broadcast Xbox: The Next Generation on May 12th 2005.
The device appeared on November 22nd 2005 in United States, while in Europe it arrived December 2nd.
About the Xbox 360
Microsoft chose the name Xbox 360 instead of Xbox 2, because that suggested that it beats the PS2. The number 360 hinted to a broad range of options, because they placed the console not only as a toy. They intended that it work as a central device in the living room.
Through the years the Xbox 360 received several models. There was a base version with 4 GB, a small 250 GB version, a 120 GB small model and even a variant of 500 GB. Used consoles cost around 119,99 dollars for the 120 GB small and 129,99 dollars for the 250 GB type at some stores.
For that price the used unit offered unbeatable vaule. The graphics stay impressive, and you find a huge set of games.
The collection of games ranks among the richest from all platforms. Games like Halo, Gears of War, OutRun 2006, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition and Rock Band 3 belong to the favorites. Dishonored came out in 2012, almost at the end of the life cycle of the console, and people praised it because of the wonderful graphics, levels, voice acting and options for creative play.
Forza Motorsport 4 improved compared to the prior Forza 3, that already was brilliant. The choice of titles was quite vast, and Xbox Live worked well with big and small games.
Also the console acts as a center for media. It plays video files and music from computers with Windows. Apps like YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video allow you too use it as a normal entertainment device on television.
However the Xbox 360 has a limited lifespan. The parts in it can fail even after 30 years without use. You can swap those parts and keep the device working when it ages.
Some games for Xbox 360 do not work on Xbox One, which gives the original console new purpose. Compatible Xbox 360 games bought in the online store deliver a license for the real version, that can be downloaded from the history on theXbox 360 device.
The Xbox 360 controller received official support for Steam. The Steam Deck even works to run Xbox 360 games through emulation. Some people once converted a case of Xbox 360 into a full PC, because the case fit computer hardware and a power supply, while it looked good on a desk.
