LED strip lights help to settle many problems about lighting. Whether you want to add accents, install lights under shelves, light up the ceiling of your kitchen, give light to balcony or terrace, use them for task lamps or even for garden and building design, those strips can help you. They work just as well inside and outside which makes them very flexible for everything that you want to do.
What makes them special is the ability to fit in narrow and hard to reach places, where normal lamps simply do not work. Their low profile helps them hide in spaces. You can cut them to any length that you need, and most come with a sticky base that sticks flatly.

About colours, you have two main choices. There are strips with one fixed colour, that stays at one steady tone. Others are colour-changing, that can shift between various colours according to your desire.
If you care how the colours really appear, check the ratnig of CRI. It shows how well the light restores the real colours that it should. From my experience, strips with CRI above 90 make a clear difference when you use them inside.
COB strips deserve more attention. The new versions without separate spots, based on COB technology, give more even light without visible dots. The freedom of cutting is also important, it allows you to cut in more spots along the length, which gives more options for fitting.
In home, LED strip lights give a complete solution with long life, which lowers costs and issues too minimum. For outdoor use, they reach IP64 level or more, to last weather. In really wet places, some are covered with high quality silicone and have IP65.
If you install lights in sauna or steam room, that is entirely other case. Those strips last high heat and humidity, commonly with IP67 or IP68. Some work from minus 25 degrees Celsius until 100 degrees.
The range does not end here. One finds 12V or 24V versions, battery or usual models, addressable strips with segments, RGB or RGB with white, adjustable white and almost UV-C. Plug-in versions exist also, if that better fits your system.
For gaming, RGB strips sync with your games and fully pull you into the action. Many work by means of USB, so connecting them to computer or console is easy. Some work with RGB functions of motherboards, using programs like ASUS Aura.
Behind a desk or in the computer area, they improve the whole atmosphere. Reflected light off a surface looks more natural than direct light. Most common lengths are around 5 metres, although some brands offer rolls until 30 metres.
