The Nintendo Switch Lite is a smaller and lighter version of the Nintendo Switch console. It is only for portable gaming. So, one can not attach it to a television.
The device is quite small and light what makes it great for players that like to play during travel.
Nintendo Switch Lite: A Small, Portable Game Console
The original Switch differs from the Lite mainly because of the Joy-Con, that can not be removed. So some games, that need separate Joy-Con, simply do not work on it. For instance, Ring Fit Adventure and Mario Party belong to that group.
Also 1-2-Switch does not work fully, unless one adds outside controllers, that sell separately. The Lite works with games from the Nintendo Switch collection that allow portable play. If a game does not have such option, fitting controllers connect wirelessly.
The Lite has a 5.5-inch screen. It is smaller compared to the 6.2-inch display of the standard Switch. Even so, that small size gives sharper pixel density.
Also, it includes a handy D-pad, what is a nice detail. The buttons click well and react quickly. While it delivers the same experience, the shape of the Lite feels more comfy for gaming in hand then the usual Switch.
The device includes 32 GB of storage. That quickly fills, so extra memory maybe is needed depending on the number of downloaded games. The life of the Battery beats a bit that of the prior version, what is useful during long play.
The Nintendo Switch Lite costs less than the basic Switch. It serves as a good portable device for kids or for those, that want to simply play on the move without care about docked play. It works well for folks, that never attach the regular Switch.
The idea is like that between 2DS and 3DS, minus some main features, but it also runs the same titles.
The Lite comes in many colors. Turquoise, blue, coral, yellow and gray are all available. There are even special editions with Zacian and Zamazenta, as well as a Hyrule version.
It reaches a big set of Nintendo exclusives along with good support for third-party games. Titles like Dead Cells, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Minecraft and Metroid all run on it. On theSwitch system there are also more mature games, for instance Doom and Bioshock.
The device does not support Steam by default. There is no official way to send PC games to it without hacks or workarounds. A known issue is the drift of the Joy-Con analog stick, that can cause problems over time.
Even so, the Nintendo Switch Lite stays a good pick among portable gaming devices in 2025.
