Final Fantasy 14 happens in the magical land Eorzea years after the terrible Seventh Umbral Calamity, that closed the first version of the game. The planet itself received blessing of the Crystalline Light, with blue in the seas and world surrounded by dice and worked by warriors. Naoki Yoshida led and created it, and it appeared everywhere for PlayStation 3 and Windows in August 2013 replacing the failed version from 2010.
The first 1.0 version resulted in terrible failure. This mistake genuinely injured the name of Square Enix. However the rebuilt version changed everything outright.
Final Fantasy 14 Rebuilt and Growing
Since then, it received support for PlayStation 4, macOS, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Now it lives more than ten years, exactly 12 years since Revival of teh King.
Below 30 millions of adventurers from the whole world entered the game. The free trial shows much goodness. It stores three awarded parts, that covers the main story together with Heavensward and Stormblood until level 70, without limits on playtime.
Only that already gives a huge amount of content.
The plot forms one of the mainstream reasons. It twists around struggle between goodness and evil, between light and shade. In the centre, deal about a mainstream pattern abandoned without anchor, that must deal with his own essence together with old comrades, on background of a perishing world.
That speaks too the depth of characters, that made the non-MMO Final Fantasy games famous, but here the way seems pointed to the future. The story of Endwalker bears players of exploration about why the Final Days happen in Sharlayan until their trip to the far limit of the cosmos to beat the threat.
Only the mechanics of battle and collection can involve folks for ages. The first dungeon, Sastasha, opens at level 15 and introduces to the system of such places. Almost everything in the game is designed for use by one single player.
Other characters help for separate tasks, but they are not strictly required.
One can transfer to different data centres to play with friends or find new ones. Binding of Steam account will finally arrive for the game. Even so versions for Windows and Steam do not match between themselves.
Other platforms stay there, but one must buy separatelicences for each of them.
Patch 7.2, called Seekers of Eternity, came out on March 25th 2025. Patch 7.5, with title Way to the Skies, was announced with a date of April 28th. It will become the final big update for Dawntrail.
Stormblood addressed dark themes by means of surprise revolution. The newest patch brought a bit of hope for the continuation of the plot, although Square Enix yet needs to recover trust.
