League of Legends is a team-based online battle arena game that one commonly calls MOBA. Riot Games created it back in 2009. Because the game is free, that explained why so many folks around the world joined it during the years.
A bit later, almost 100 millions of players joined monthly which made it the most popular video game globally.
What is League of Legends
Players can choose from more than 140 champions as their main characters. Each of them owns a unique set of skills. They lead their champion from a top-down viewpoint, which simply means that one sees the action from above and a bit sideways.
In a match, the champion gets levels by means of collecting experience that one wins by beating opponents. It is a PC game, but there is also a version for mobile devices with PvP fights in casual or ranked fashion.
The style of that game comes actually from a module for Warcraft 3 called DotA, that means Defence of the Ancient. Because of that origin, folks sometimes call games like League of Legends by the “DotA-alike” label.

Riot Games stand also behind other games like VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra and Wild Rift. Legends of Runeterra is a tactical card game in the world of League of Legends, where skill and creativity decides everything. In addition, there is Ruined King, a story game from League of Legends, and Convergence, another story title where players use skills to face enemies in battles.
Riot disclosed that League of Legends will receive a big change after 2026, probably the biggest in the 16-year history of the game. It is not available on Steam. No one intends to change that, because a deal would benefit mostly Steam and not Riot.
The talks of the community happen mainly on Reddit and Discord now, afterRiot closed its official message board in March 2020 because of drop in usage there.
