Wuthering Waves: Free Open-World Action Game
In the game, you wake up as Rover, that rises from long sleep on Solaris-3. The whole world is huge and filled with endless secrets ready to be found. Designers received ideas from Fatal Beach to create this post-apocalyptic setting, wanting to reach high immersion.
Already from the first moment, when you open the eyes, new landscapes, unknown creatures and technologies surround you, that feel entirely foreign.
During the journey, Rover finds a group of characters called Resonators, that becomes your helpers. Together you chase lost memories that can not be forgotten, and bother to beat the called Wail. There are many tasks: team up with fresh players, beat bosses and extract wonderful scenes from every aspect.
The open-world bids real freedom to wander where you want, which is refreshing.
Main forces of the game show in the fights. It borrows ideas, that you likely know from Genshin Impact, Tower of Fantasy or Honkai Star Rail, even so it stresses smooth action around the characters. Here the main spot: rather than simple gliding as in Genshin, you can use a push burst-move while you jump in the air.
That tiny change actually alters the feeling of fights. The whole system of battle flows well and you truly enjoy taking part in it.
Also the story deserves praise. It dives into viewpoints that seem fresh and keep you truly engaged about the following events, both for the main plot and for every player. Hear the history clearly is central, although sometimes the conversations become a bit long.
Even so, this game shows why gameplay based on story attracts players.
Wuthering Waves reached Steam with a peak of more than 40 000 simultaneous players during the holidays at the end of 2024. Reviews on Steam go from mixed until mostly positive, with some mixed opinions between them. As many gacha-games, the look receives much focus, and Kuro Games well succeeded here.
