Pokemon Scarlet and Violet appeared November 18th 2022 for the Nintendo Switch. Between the main new features is the chance to prepare Sandwich. The picnic system allows coaches to arrange a picnic almost anywhere in the open world.
Making Sandwiches in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
To start simply touch the picnic table and choose the option to create a Sandwich.
The process of Sandwich making works as a little game. It is like the making of Pokeblocks, Poffins or treats in older Pokemon games. Up to four players get to together cook a Sandwich.
However the stacking part of that mini-game can become really annoying, because ingredients easily tip out. Placing everthing well on the bread does form a challenge.
Sandwich offer various powers and benefits. The right recipe helps to boost chances for shiny Pokemon, raise odds of encounters with certain types of Pokemon and even improve marks. Shining Power, Title Power and Encounter Power rank between the most popular effects for hunting shiny samples.
Sandwich with Egg Power is useful for breeding, increasing the frequency of egg hatching and cutting the time four hatching.
The amount of available recipes for Sandwich matches 151. Here is a direct nod to the main number of Pokemon in the first generation. Different fillings let you mix, and the Creative Mode opens all options.
Compared to the rest of the game with its more stylized world, the ingredients and finished Sandwich look surprisingly plain.
Sandwich of level 3 are most widely useful, because they boost chances for shiny and odds of encounters with certain types of Pokemon. To prepare those great Sandwich you need Herba Mystica, that only rarely shows as a prize from high Teraiden-raids. Interestingly, giving Pokemon the bitter Herba Mystica through Sandwich actually boosts the friendship, although such herbs usually lower it.
There also exist recipes with four stars, that do not need any Herba Mystica. One recipe for shiny works with any two kinds of Herba Mystica, not only the salty.
During making of Sandwich in multiplayer, the benefits count for all nearby. Even if some player stands very far, only Pokemon that are born beside every single coach receive the effect. In shared worlds, Pokemon only found in Scarlet can appear beside players of Scarlet, so that helps to find rare ones.
Online there are tools for fake Sandwich. It lets coaches mix any ingredients and see the result. Correct recipes sorted by type or saving favorites up in the list would be a nice improvement for the use.
