🏎️ Rally-Specific FOV Tip: For Assetto Corsa rally stages (hillclimb & dirt mods), many drivers prefer a slightly lower FOV than mathematically correct (reduce by 3–5°) for better depth perception on fast stages. Increase FOV by 5° if you feel motion sickness in hairpin sequences.

Assetto Corsa is a driving simulator, that tries to give a truly realistic experience of car racing. It offers a wide selection of street and race cars, with close physical models and tire simulation. To create the tracks they used laser scanning technology which strengthens the realism.

Released in 2014, the program soon became very popular thanks to its fresh engine for physics, models of cars that are very precise, and tracks scanned by laser.

A Real Car Racing Game with Lots of Mods

It does not simply play. It truly simulates the race. Together with the big producers of cars they built Assetto Corsa to stress pure realism in the drive.

Every part of the program was done with great accuracy. The simulator carries channels for telemetry input, hybrid systems and simulation of energy recovery. One can play alone or with many folks, together with cars that are officially licensed and captured with top accuracy.

The community for modding around Assetto Corsa is huge. People value the game chiefly because of the huge amount of available mods. There are mods for apps, cars, skins, sounds, themes and trakcs.

To install mods for cars and tracks takes a bit of knowledge, but it is doable. To install a mod, you just copy the files in the right folder of the Steam folders. Forums and online communities focus on discussions about modding, for instance about 3D models of cars, skins, tracks and sounds.

The update v1.16 brought the track Laguna Seca scanned by laser and seven fresh cars, among them the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. There is also a Japanese expansion pack that shows seven new cars chosen buy the community, all from the best of the Japanese domestic market.

On PC Assetto Corsa is a good choice. For Xbox or PlayStation more suits Assetto Corsa Competizione for those who like regular racing. Competizione is the official game of the GT World Challenge.

It captures the real atmosphere of the GT3 championship by means of official drivers, teams, cars and circuits, that are captured with the highest accuracy ever reached. It applies an advanced math model that faithfully copies the grip of tires, effects of aerodynamics and output of engines.

There is also Assetto Corsa EVO, that appeared in Early Access January 16th 2025. It truly redefines the realism and main features of one of the most liked cross-platform simulators of driving ever created. The program has some payment walls, but it is worth the money as a solid simulator.

It is good overall for racing simulation, although some parts can seem a bit simple. Helpers in the game for driving help to form ideas about the basics, even so carrying those skills intoreal life is another challenge, because actual driving gives much more feedback.
